Compensation:             $60,00-$70,000 annual salary paid twice monthly

Schedule:                       Typical office hours during non-performance weeks. Mostly nights and weekends during programmed weeks/evenings

Position Summary:

 

Production managers are the first point of contact to address the day-to-day backstage operational needs of Broadway Dallas and the venues in which it operates. The position interfaces with internal employees including a number of employees governed by collective bargaining agreements, outside renters, and associated visiting artists, technicians, and administrative representatives as well as with staff/contractors at rented theatres including the Winspear Opera House.

 

Well qualified candidates will demonstrate familiarity and expertise in communicating with diverse stakeholder groups in dynamic environments. For example, a single day of meetings might include an early morning conversation with an on-site parking manager followed by overseeing a load-in with a staff of over 50 people, then after a lunch with a colleague, this individual might have an afternoon walk-through with a prospective renter followed by prep for an evening performance before passing the baton to another member of the production team for load-out.

 

The Associate Production Manager will assist other production personnel in scheduling, tracking, and accurately reporting theatrical staff including unionized backstage employees, Teamsters, and touring show/concert artists and other personnel. The position will also assist in the production of Broadway Dallas produced events such as High School Musical Theatre Awards and those off-site such as donor, press, and other education and community partnership events.

 

This position requires regular on-site work in and around the Music Hall at Fair Park and some off-campus meetings and event support. Little or no remote work is anticipated in this role. Familiarity with Fair Park and its surrounding neighborhoods is strongly preferred.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and ensure the satisfactory and timely completion of projects and programs as assigned by the Director of Facility & Production or General Manager
  • Create and maintain a database of all show requirements (technical riders, front-of-house information sheets, contact information, required crew schedules, etc.) for all incoming rentals and touring companies
  • Obtain permits, rental equipment, parking passes and other essential operations for the production department and renters
  • Establish review standards for regular backstage vendors
  • Create technical specifications from design drawings and bid out rentals based on that information
  • Understand, maintain, calculate, and explain payroll costs and procedures for employees governed by collective bargaining agreements; establish thorough and efficient communication of these payroll costs to promoters, touring company management, and individuals/entities responsible for payroll processing
  • Plan for additional future programming aligned with organizational strategic plan goals and in-line with Broadway Dallas’ purpose, mission, vision, and values
  • Liaise with other departments and contractors on collaborative interdepartmental projects and programs such as fundraising efforts, productions/presentations, etc.
  • Represent the Production Manager during any absence including during scheduled on-call shifts

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of experience in theatrical production or live entertainment production
  • One year of supervisory experience in the production field with high customer, client or employee contact: rental manager, crew head, stage manager, etc.
  • Fluency in common computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, email, scheduling and project management software
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of contract administration
  • Familiarity with common payroll calculation practices such as required minimums, premium, overtime, and time-differential compensation
  • Availability to work long hours as required by the production schedule including some “overnight” evening shifts like 4pm-2am and with a weekend and holiday rotation
  • Lift/carry a maximum of 50 pounds; push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds; stand, sit, bend and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work safely around haze, smoke, and pyrotechnics.
  • Position oneself into and out of crawl spaces and confined areas
  • Traverse the Music Hall and similarly sized campus areas multiple times in one shift/day
  • Access to consistent method of transport to/from the Music Hall at Fair Park (onsite parking is available, DART and bus stops are located immediately adjacent the facility).

 

Preferred Skills:

  • A.A. or B.A. degree in related field
  • Familiarity with computer aided drafting and demonstrated ability to interpret scale drawing
  • Background in multiple areas of technical theater such as stage management, sound/lighting design and board programming, carpentry/scenic design
  • Familiarity with wage, tax, and benefit rules and regulations
  • Prompt, clear, and concise communication as well as organized time management and prioritization are required in order to ensure safe and successful performances that will take place nearly daily—and oftentimes twice a day and sometimes in multiple venues.
