United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut (UWCWC) is seeking a candidate to fill the 

position of Marketing and Donor Engagement Manager. This is a full-time position based in our Bridgeport, CT office. This team member will build a donor and partner stewardship program in collaboration with the Marketing and Development staff.

Summary

Bring your marketing expertise, creative talent, and passion for helping others to our marketing team! Under the supervision of the Senior Marketing Manager, the Marketing and Donor Engagement Manager is responsible for implementing a strategic communications plan, developing marketing and communication content across multiple channels and platforms, driving donor and volunteer engagement and retention, and engaging in public relations, advertising, special events, and promotions. A self-motivated storyteller, this team member understands the logistical elements of narrative writing, AP writing style, and how to write for—and share information on—different platforms. The person in this position has a firm grasp of digital marketing trends and can bring both a strategic and creative vision to the role. 

 

Responsibilities 

 

Marketing 

  Using the Marketing Tracker to manage workflow effectively, the Marketing Manager: 

      • Develops and manages high-quality content for UWCWC and its initiatives, including newsletters, blogs, social media posts, infographics, case studies, and more. 
      • Enhances UWCWC’s storytelling capacity by identifying and capturing personal success stories with attention to editing, copywriting, and design, for online and offline channels. 
      • Continuously engages stakeholders with online content and conversation. 
      • Develops flyers for programmatic partners, develops and orders promotional items and office materials. 
      • Participates and represents UWCWC on the United Way statewide Marketing Collaborative. 


Media Relations 

      • Plans and coordinates media opportunities and interviews.  
      • Writes compelling press releases, media kits, background materials, talking points, letters to the editor, op-eds, crisis communications, etc. 

 

Donor Engagement 

      • Develops and manages print and digital fundraising campaigns, specifically, workplace campaign materials, annual reports and residential (direct) mailings. 
      • Collaborates with the Senior Marketing Manager to analyze the effectiveness of past campaigns and adapts strategy accordingly. 
      • Updates agency profile on key charity platforms (e.g., Charity Navigator, Gift Link, GuideStar, iGuide).  
      • Works with Senior Marketing Manager, Finance Dept., and Director of Data Management to thank donors for their gifts. 
      • Collaborates with Development & Marketing team to assist in planning and executing donor appreciation events. 
      • Helps the agency meet the publicity requirements of grant funding across appropriate channels. 

Projects & Event Management: 

      • Works collaboratively with Resource Development & Marketing team members to build brand experiences for prospective donors, volunteers, and advocates, including all small and large-scale organizational and community events (e.g., Day of Action, King of the Hill 5K, Back to School events, Live United Golf Tournament). 
      • For all special events support the design, development, and production of marketing and communications.

Required Qualifications 

      • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Fundraising, or related field, or a minimum of 3 years combined experience in communications and/or public relations AND donor engagement. 
      • Experience in advertising, marketing, public relations, and individual fundraising, ideally, for a non-profit. 
      • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) 
      • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint). 
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
      • Knowledge of audiovisual production, event planning and staging, media relations and website management. 
      • Strong interpersonal skills – including team building and volunteer management skills. 
      • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously, strong self-motivation, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. 
      • CRM donor database software experience desirable.
