Job Summary

Stamford Cradle to Career (SC2C) is seeking a candidate to fill the position of President. This is a full-time position based in Stamford, Connecticut. SC2C is a collective impact organization with the mission to collectively align community resources to ensure equity and excellence in education, for every child, from cradle to career. SC2C is a member of StriveTogether, a national movement of close to seventy communities that commit to a collaborative approach to addressing educational equity and economic mobility. United Way of Western Connecticut serves as both a funder and fiduciary for the organization providing back-office support. The President of Stamford Cradle to Career reports directly to SC2C’s Executive Team (governing board) in facilitating communication and engaging the community in every aspect of the initiative. This is a community leadership role that requires a presence at community events. This work involves productive coordination, cross-sector collaboration and building authentic partnerships among stakeholders in our community - including funders, city government, schools, non-profit, private, and public organizations as well as the community at large - to focus its efforts on initiatives that produce large-scale social change.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Provides leadership and management to ensure that the mission and core values of SC2C are put into practice.
  • Fundraises for organizational budget, a budget of $2M and growing, which includes relationship building with funders (individual, foundation, corporate and public) and grant writing.
  • Represents SC2C in its relationships with partners, stakeholders, and the community. Frequent public speaking engagements are a part of this role. Attending community events representing SC2C is a requirement, locally and at the state and national level.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective system of communication throughout SC2C network (internally) and the community (externally) to build and maintain a positive image.
  • Oversees a team of seven staff (and growing) while maintaining focus on key outcomes.
  • Responsible for identifying and monitoring potential grant opportunities and writing grant applications.
  • Champions change and manages the implementation of innovative ideas and ways of conducting business.
  • Participates as a member of the United Way of Western Connecticut Senior Management Team
  • Manages the organization’s budget and staffing needs in collaboration with United Way CFO.
  • Actively collaborates with StriveTogether including with the national office, with communities across the country, and specifically monthly with the three other CT StriveTogether communities in Norwalk, Bridgeport, and Waterbury.
  • Provide advocacy through testimony and contact with legislators at the local and state level for aligned policy and funding.

 

Required Experience and Education

 

  • Minimum of B.A. degree; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience in nonprofit or related field.
  • Knowledge of the Stamford community and the issues affecting parents, children and youth is important.
  • Experience with schools and nonprofit organizations preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple audiences in a culturally competent manner.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written). Demonstrated history with public speaking.
  • Demonstrated experience in project facilitation and management.
  • Demonstrated experience fundraising and managing an organization budget.
  • Candidates must understand the challenges and barriers faced by marginalized communities, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, class, ability, immigration status, gender, and their intersections, and have experience engaging with and collaborating with communities of color.
  • Demonstrated ability to create processes and systems.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work well with others.
  • Evidence of organizational ability and ability to successfully complete assigned projects.
  • Excellent technology skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
