Position Summary 

The Food Farmacy Operator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Greater Danbury Food Farmacy, while effectively managing inventory and budget, as well as ensuring compliance with HIPPA and/or specific grant and partner requirements. The Operator/Coordinator will work closely with cross-functional teams, including project staff, finance, and community partners to ensure efficient execution of Food Farmacy projects and effective utilization of program funding. 

The Food Farmacy is a food is medicine initiative created in partnership with United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut, Nuvance Health, and Connecticut Institute for Communities (CIFC) that seeks to improve health outcomes and food security amongst clients experiencing diet-related comorbidities who also screen positive for food insecurity. The Food Farmacy is located within the CIFC Danbury Community Center in downtown Danbury and works in partnership with several community stakeholders to provide a grocery-style food pantry with onsite nutrition counseling/education and additional support services. 

Essential Functions 

Operations Management (80%) 

  • Oversee grocery-style food pantry day-to-day operations including weekly ordering, managing deliveries, inventory, and stocking. 

  • Coordinate on-site staff including Registered Dietitian, PT workers, and/or volunteers. 

  • Organize outside services (e.g., cleaning, internet, pest control, and trash removal) and equipment/supplies purchasing and arranging equipment maintenance as needed. 

  • Work with CIFC to ensure site upkeep and address any on-site issues/repairs. 

  • Coordinate with Sr. Director of Community Impact to provide timely updates for Food as Medicine Steering Committee and identify any potential opportunities and/or issues for the program. 

Finance/Budget Supervision (10%) 

  • Process and submit invoices and expense reports in a timely fashion. 

  • Coordinate with Sr. Director of Community Impact and the finance team to develop budgets and track expenditures. 

 

Data Collection and Reporting: (10%) 

  • Ensure accurate tracking of food distribution and client engagement data to support reporting and evaluation. 

  • Assist in preparing reports and metrics for funders and stakeholders, including the Food as Medicine Steering Committee. 

Client Interaction: 

  • Work closely with the Registered Dietitian and other team members to provide a welcoming, respectful environment that maintains client confidentiality. 

  • Assist clients with understanding Food Farmacy offerings, including nutrition counseling and support services. 

 

Preferred Experience and Education 

  • Associate or Bachelors degree in business administration/project management, or High School diploma/GED with proven work experience in a related field.  

  • Proven experience in food procurement and inventory management.  

  • Demonstrated experience in project facilitation. 

  • Ability to communicate with multiple audiences in a culturally competent manner.  

  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods during operational hours. 

  • Understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by marginalized communities, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, class, ability, immigration status, gender, and their intersections. 

  • Competency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint); Google Suite (Forms, Drive). 

  • Valid driver’s license or access to reliable transportation to travel throughout Greater Danbury.  

  • May require occasional weekend and evening work. 

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) strongly preferred.  

  • Experience and/or knowledge of the Greater Danbury community a plus.  

  • Understanding of federal grant administration and management a plus.
