The Controller is a key leadership position within Finance. As a member of the Finance team, the Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for all aspects of accounting operations including the monthly and quarterly financial close, statutory accounting, accounting policies, and the internal control framework.

NOTE: This can be located remote, US or in our Fort Lauderdale office

This role will be responsible for driving cross-functional improvements to optimize our finance processes and position the Company to scale its operations in support of future growth and a potential initial public offering. Specifically, the Controller will drive efficiencies in our financial close and reporting process and support and optimize other financial processes. This individual must be comfortable driving change, managing through uncertainty and supporting a high growth fast paced organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for directing the accounting function, maintaining financial records and financial systems, preparing financial reports, developing and executing internal controls, assisting with budgeting and forecasting processes, and overseeing the day-to-day functions of the finance department.
  • Manage the month, quarter, and year-end close process, and lead the preparation of quarterly and annual SEC filings (forms 10K and 10Q)
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Analyzes and interprets financial data and recommends changes to improve systems and financial performance.
  • Manage and comply with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Oversee and manage the quarterly review and annual external audit process.
  • Develop and implement effective systems, accounting policies and financial controls which maintain the integrity of all financial transactions and reporting of the Company.
  • Oversee and direct the execution of cash management, banking transactions and support the Company's annual insurance renewal process.
  • Oversee revenue recognition and invoicing.
  • Ensure the Company is compliant with regulatory, IRS and U.S. GAAP requirements.
  • Build, develop and manage a team of professionals capable of operating a successful finance function.
  • Establish and maintain strong business partnerships with key counterparts and functional business leaders.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct reports include a Staff Accountant at this time.

Qualification Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Active CPA preferred

Experience:

  • 8+ years of overall experience with 3+ or more years related experience in a biotech environment
  • Skilled in analyzing complex transactions, applying technical accounting guidance and documenting accounting treatment in memorandum format
  • Proficient in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports, including SEC reports such as Form-10Q and Fomr-10K
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding financial information
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Team-focused and approachable

Knowledge/Skill:

  • Advanced Excel, Oracle NetSuite, and equity software, such as Carta, knowledge preferred
  • Technical and comprehensive knowledge of key finance, accounting and tax areas of a biotech company including an excellent understanding of GAAP
  • Multi-tasker that can perform with high accuracy
  • Must be organized and efficient with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills especially when explaining complex financial situations or processes to others
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with flexibility to take on new challenges as needed.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced virtual environment
  • Possess a self-directing, self-starting work ethic

Working Conditions:

          The work environment shall be either a virtual office environment, the Company headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Des Moines Iowa, or a combination.

Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to, the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected US salary range:  $180,000-200,000

This position generally is eligible for cash incentive compensation, equity incentive compensation, and employee benefits under the Company’s benefit plans.
