Job Title: Director of Industry Engagement

Non-profit Solar One seeks a driven Director to join our Green Workforce Training Program. Solar One’s Green Workforce Training Program offers unemployed and underemployed New Yorkers green hard skills, technical training, and industry-recognized certifications tied to green building operations and maintenance, energy efficiency, and solar. We deliver our courses in active, hands-on formats at our state-of-the-art training lab located in Queens.

The Director of Industry Engagement will be an integral member of the Solar One team, leading the design and delivery of our new clean energy career placement program. The Director will work across Solar One programs to build relationships with employers in the clean energy sector with the goal of ensuring that trainees from Solar One’s workforce programs and high school career and technical education programs have access to career pathways in the growing clean energy industry.

Responsibilities

·        Program Design: collaborate with Solar One’s Co-Directors of Programs and Director of Workforce program on design for program activities, refine and set goals for job placements and internship placements during years 1-3 of the program

·        Staff Management: hire and manage two full-time career placement associates who would work directly with individuals enrolled in our workforce programs to mentor them and help them prepare for interviews and opportunities with employer partners

·        Program Management: oversee all program activities, ensure program is meeting goals and targets, use program evaluation to consistently improve program services for jobseekers, organize clean energy career fairs, and oversee collaborations with workforce partner organizations on job placement, collaborate with workforce team instructors, engage with employer partners to help inform workforce curriculum and best practices

·        Employer Partnerships: build on existing employer relationships with clean energy businesses and develop new employer partnerships and support clean energy businesses to access State wage subsidies for on the job training

·        Program Evaluation: design quantitative and qualitative program evaluation tools to support decision-making using a variety of performance indicators, and work with the Workforce team to refine and improve data tracking systems and survey instruments

Qualifications and Skills
Successful candidates for this role should be able to demonstrate the following:

Technical Skills

·        Fluency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint

·        Experience creating reports and dashboards with Salesforce (or a comparable CRM) is a plus

·        Comfortable with web-based tools and technology

Soft Skills

·        Written and verbal communication

·        Program management experience

·        Collaborative

·        Problem-solving

Experience and Subject Area Expertise

·        A college degree

·        4+ years of full-time experience working in workforce development and/or job placement

·        Experience managing a team

·        Passion for clean energy, workforce development, and environmental justice

·        Capacity to operate as an independent self-starter who takes initiative and asks good questions

·        Strong capacity to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines simultaneously

·        Knowledge of/experience in clean energy or an adjacent sector is preferred

Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required for this position. This position is located in Long Island City, Queens. Solar One’s hybrid schedule is flexible, but this position will require in-person office hours for meetings with employers, hosting events, and working with colleagues and trainees. In-person hours would likely be 2-3 days per week.


Pay and Benefits
Position Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Starting Annual Salary: $80,000
