The Hispanic Federation (HF) is the nation's premier Latino nonprofit membership organization. Founded in 1990, HF supports Hispanic families and strengthens Latino institutions through grant making and direct services in the areas of education, health, immigration, civic engagement, economic empowerment, and the environment. Hispanic Federation’s Economic Empowerment program focuses on creating a strong foundation to increase the financial health of Latino communities. Through culturally relevant community-focused workshops and events, the Economic Empowerment program aims to educate individuals and families on financial best practices, eradicate food insecurity, and create opportunities for economic mobility. Since inception, the program has worked to positively impact communities in New York City and has grown to include communities across the United States and in Puerto Rico. 

 

Who We Seek

Hispanic Federation seeks a Business Revitalization Program Manager, to support our small business grantmaking program, outreach and engagement, and contract-related work of HF’s Economic Empowerment programmatic and advocacy efforts that aim to increase the financial security of Latino entrepreneurs.  

The Program Manager will report to HF’s Director for Economic Empowerment and work with the director to support and expand the organization’s small business support portfolio, including HF’s Crear y Crecer su Negocio Small Business Support Initiative. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration, this new initiative will provide grant funding for small business support programming, oversee the creation of a business fundamentals toolkit, and foster entrepreneur learning circles in New York’s 13th Congressional District. Crear y Crecer su Negocio will serve as a pilot program to provide a wide range of technical assistance programming and tools to strengthen the growing Latino small business community in New York City and beyond. 

The successful candidate has experience working with communities of color and program management and development. The manager will be a self-starter who can accurately complete a range of tasks necessary for successful and timely grant distribution and community engagement. The Program Manager is responsible for reporting to the director and internal departments on the program’s progress and outcomes. 

The position is a hybrid role and will require a minimum of ten (10) days onsite a month.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Program Administration

  • Work closely with Hispanic Federation HQ and Economic Empowerment Team to coordinate community-based small business support grants and promote services.  

  • Support curriculum development and creation of community toolkits to serve as a template and provide guidance to small businesses and nonprofits supporting them.  

  • Administer small business support services as needed.  

  • Maintain accurate records, provide timely program activity reports on grants and program initiatives internally, and comply with all reporting requirements,  

  • Evaluate and collect program data to ensure the program meets its stated development goals. 

  • Coordinate and manage technology for all virtual workshops and forums from beginning to end and ensure all locations are set up when in-person events and meetings occur. 

  • Assist with other Hispanic Federation projects and initiatives as requested. 

Outreach and Engagement

  • Develop informational resources and compile already existing resources to promote on HF’s website and social media platforms, refer to resources while working within community spaces or when connecting with small business owners.  

  • Develop relationships with local chambers of commerce, nonprofits working with small business owners, and other community groups with a focus on entrepreneurs.; facilitate conversations and meetings between stakeholders.   

  • Serve as point of contact for community outreach to entrepreneurs.   

  • Coordinate with partners to promote the program services to small businesses and local community organizations.   

  • Cultivate key relationships and partnerships with community leaders in Hispanic Federation’s network.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a BA/BS degree and demonstrated interest in economic empowerment work to uplift underserved low-income communities and entrepreneurs.  

  • At least three years of professional experience in non-profit program management, small business assistance and community outreach.  

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)  

  • Strong ability to monitor work plans, track expenses, adhere to deadlines, perform tasks for multiple projects and duties simultaneously, and prioritize assignments.  

  • Ideal applicants will be efficient, results-oriented with high energy and exhibit an exceptional ability to work with others.  

  • Self-starter with ability to adapt to evolving situations.  

  • Strong commitment to Hispanic Federation's mission and core values.  

  • Excellent, well-developed verbal and writing skills are essential along with strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.  

  • Ability to support special events and projects; evening hours and weekends will be required from time to time.  

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.  

  • Ability to travel locally within New York City.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 and commensurate with experience. Compensation comes with a robust benefits package with fully subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403(B) retirement plan (including eligibility for a company match), and access to flexible spending and pre-tax commuter benefits. Full- time regular employees are also provided with fifteen (15) vacation days, four (4) personal days, and paid sick time.
