Who we seek

Hispanic Federation is seeking Community Outreach and Engagement Director with experience in public education, community engagement, outreach and organizing. The primary focus of this position is to develop community engagement strategies, create new partnerships, and maintain and expand HF’s reach within the state of Florida focusing on HF FL’s current and emerging programs.

The director will also support in devising effective advocacy initiatives and establishing relationships with community members, community-based organizations, and elected officials to promote positive change in underserved communities in Florida. In collaboration with the Florida State Director and members of the national Community Engagement Team, the director will lead on a comprehensive Voter Education campaign. This campaign will involve engaging community leaders, recruiting and training volunteers, and coordinating outreach efforts to ensure widespread voter education and participation.

The ideal candidate for this position should have a strong interest in community engagement and a proven track record of organizing and mobilizing underserved and underrepresented communities. They will also have experience in building relationships, with working collaboratively and effectively with a diverse cohort of partners, and inspiring others while executing challenging tasks. The position is hybrid and will require onsite presence from Hispanic Federation's Orlando Office and from different locations throughout the state for at least 50% of the time (approximately ten days a month).

Community Engagement

  • Engage nonprofit, partner agencies, and network organizations to assess community need and to support in disseminating relevant, culturally competent materials around HF Programs which will include, but are not limited to, civic engagement, immigration, health programs, career readiness and general support and services.
  • Recruit and manage a cohort of community engagement staff members whose focus is to connect and educate communities supported by HF and its network.
  • Ensure Hispanic Federation is in compliance of all municipal, state and federal regulations around community engagement, and specifically in areas of voter registration and civic engagement.
  • Prepare community education materials with all relevant program leads, ensure all materials are appropriate for community members and is written in accessible language.
  • Represent Hispanic Federation as the lead of community engagement programming, may serve as HF’s representative in civic engagement matters for Florida.
  • Manage and support community outreach through a variety of tech tools and databases, specifically Hustle, Telzo; manage outreach data through databases such as Voter Activation Network and other engagement tracking systems.
  • Ensure synergy with all Florida programs and work closely with Florida program team to maximize outreach and impact
  • Cultivate and sustain key relationships and partnerships with community leaders and community-based organizations in Hispanic Federation’s network

Community Organizing and Relationship Management

  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers actively, fostering engagement and involvement in program initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain connections with partners, community-based organizations, and elected officials and build strong relationships with support from the Florida State Director and other program leads.
  • Implement advocacy initiative promoting social change and advance key policy goals as outlined by the Florida State Director.
  • Work with the FL State Director and other partners to develop strategies and build coalitions for effective advocacy efforts.
  • Educate the community on advocacy issues that pertain to Florida.
  • Foster new relationships with state partners, working closely with the FL State Director to strengthen program impact and broaden community reach.

Public Education

  • Contribute to the "La Voz de mi Gente on Wheels" campaign for voter education in collaboration with the FL State Director and National Civic Engagement Director.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of staff, volunteers, and community members on civic engagement issues.

Administrative and Reporting

  • Attend meetings and trainings as directed and necessary to stay informed and up-to-date on program developments and strategies.
  • Efficiently collect and maintain programmatic data, ensuring accurate and thorough records.
  • Prepare quarterly reports to track program development, progress, and impact.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, following organizational communications protocols and requirements.
  • Generate weekly in-house reports on program progress and activities.
  • Assist with light grant writing tasks as required to support funding opportunities.


Skills, knowledge, and qualities:

  • Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience with community engagement, organizing, coalition building, and civic engagement.
  • Strong passion for advocacy, civic engagement, and community outreach/organizing, with a deep commitment to social justice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in advocacy and community outreach, preferably in a nonprofit or governmental organization.
  • Knowledge of voter education initiatives, voter registration processes, and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage and supervise staff or volunteers, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of data collection, analysis, and reporting, especially for contract and grant reporting purposes.
  • Exposure to fundraising and grant writing and reporting is a plus.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with individuals and foster community within a group.
  • Strong outreach skills.
  • Flexibility to work with individuals from all walks of life.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to speak, write, and read English and Spanish is required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of and/or involvement in the community served.
  • Ability to develop partnerships.
  • Must have a driver’s license and reliable transportation, must be comfortable traveling throughout Florida.


Benefits and Salary

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 and is commensurate with experience. Compensation comes with a robust benefits package with a fully subsidized medical, dental, vision insurance, 403(B) retirement plans with a company match after 6 months, and access to flexible spending and pre-tax commuter benefits.

First year employees of the Hispanic Federation receive a PTO package with 15 days designated for vacation, 4 Personal Days, and 8 Sick Days annually.
