Job Summary
The seamstress/tailor primary responsibility is to sew bodycam equipment either to repair or to alter to the uniforms tastes. Perform other duties as necessary Essential Functions: Perform basic alterations on garments including, but not limited to, sleeves, backs, sides, collars and bodices.Be knowledgeable of, fits, and fabrics to better serve the customer Maintain records for seamstress department Inform team leader of supply needs that arise in daily operations. The Seamstress’ primary responsibility is to perform a variety of needlework tasks to support the execution of alterations. Reporting to the Uniform Product Manager, you will work Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4pm. Job Duties
· Sewing – fit, repair, alter uniforms according to required basic design practices.
· Duties may include measuring, tracing, drawing, cutting, pinning, gluing, hand/machine sewing, or otherwise modifying fabrics or materials to prepare, alter, mend, and/or create the pre-sized or custom-made garments.
· Communicate needs, related to duties and/or materials, to maintain a clean/organized and functional workspace.
· Observe all safety guidelines and report safety concerns to management.
· Ensure the work area is clear of hazards that could cause harm to self, or surrounding co-workers or assigned materials, tools, and/or machinery.
· Adhere to safety, confidentiality, security, compliance, quality, and equipment policies, procedures, and/or requirements.
· Interpret patterns and operate sewing equipment to create products to specification.
· Inspect and identify quality concerns and utilize appropriate techniques to maintain quality of specific design.
· Maintain sewing equipment and report issues to management as they arise.
· Maintain a professional attitude with sincerity and enthusiasm reflecting Utility Associates’ commitment to our customer.
· Maintain documentation as required.
· Inform Lead Seamstress of supply needs that arise in daily operation.
· Strictly adhere to assigned deadlines/quotas without compromising the quality, function, or appearance of the tools, machinery, materials, fabrics, or apparel.
· Perform other duties as needed.
Job Requirements
· High school diploma or equivalent required
· 2+ years of Seamstress/Tailor experience required.
· Experience with and thorough knowledge of, some/all of the following materials: sewing machines, pins, needles, fabric, zippers, Velcro, hook & eye, foam, templates, scissors, rulers, measuring tape, thread, chalk, tape, and use of safety materials such as safety glasses, gloves, face masks, etc.
· Possess technical skills that include zipper installation, cut, and sew construction.
· Must be able to operate and perform basic maintenance on sewing machines.
· Ability to meet deadlines and demonstrate time management skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Demonstrable patience.
· Embody personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Experience working under pressure to complete assigned quotas.
· Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
· Basic computer skills.
· Good communication skills.
· Able to multitask.
· Attention for detail is a must.
· Physically capable of manual labor that includes lifting, bending, and reaching up to 25lbs.
· Must be reliable and punctual.
· Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
· This job is performed sitting for the entire work shift while using a sewing machine.
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
· The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
· Local travel by car may be required (no more than 10% of the time).
· Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Candidates must pass a pre-employment Drug Screen and Background Check.
