Description

Great Western Building Systems is seeking a responsible Safety Assistant to facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines. Great Western Buildings was founded in 2016 and is quickly becoming a leader in the Pre-Engineered metal building industry.

The ideal candidate will be a responsible individual who swears by OHS regulations. You will provide advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations and maintain constant vigilance for possible violations. The work of the Safety Assistant will be largely focused on prevention and will need to be conscientious and farsighted. The ideal candidate will also be detail-oriented and ready to act in emergency situations. 

Responsibilities 

  • Maintain, implement, and development of OHS policies, procedures, and programs

  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices, and stop any unsafe acts or processes

  • Assist in new employee orientation training and annual safety training 

  • Assist supervisors in immediately investigating all work-related injuries and report findings to the appropriate personnel 

  • Ensure that third-party vendors or contractor personnel working on the property are in compliance with company policies and safety requirements 

  • Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws, or reporting requirements 

  • Participate in the development of safety guidelines and related health and safety communications and educational information

  • Facilitate safety meetings 

  • Perform other duties or tasks as needed or assigned by the Safety Manager or Senior Management.


Qualifications 

  • The ability to pass a pre-employment drug test is required

  • Knowledge of OHS and OSHA regulations and procedures 

  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements in manufacturing, production, and warehouse environments 

  • Knowledge of welding and cutting 

  • Outstanding organizational skills

  • Diligent with great attention to detail 

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment


The work environment is primarily indoors, and will, at times, be exposed to natural weather elements such as heat, cold, sunlight, darkness, wind, rain, lightning, snow, and dust. The noise level in the work environment. is usually moderate

  • $22.00 - $26.00/hour, depending on experience

Experience 

  • Safety Assistant or Safety Officer :1+ year(s) of experience 

  • Knowledge of OHS and OSHA regulations and guidelines preferred
