About Bay State College

Bay State College is a private career-focused college founded in 1946 in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston. With a mission to prepare students for successful careers and global citizenship through academic rigor and individualized support. Bay State College is seeking an Adjunct Instructor to teach a newly developed course titled Design Thinking.

Position Overview

The Adjunct Instructor, Design Thinking, will be responsible for developing and delivering a new course described as follows:

In our modern world, innovation has become the key to both advancing the potential of our society and overcoming inevitable challenges that are faced.  This course will invite students to take a systematic approach to innovation and problem solving to challenges in business and society.  Students, individually and in groups, will engage in project-based learning, requiring them to collaborate with others in solving increasingly complex problems.  Utilizing Apple and Steve Jobs as a case study, particular focus will be placed on the product and social change innovation utilizing human centric analysis, prototyping, sketching, and paradigm shifting. 

This position is for Spring Term 2 in March 2022. The Adjunct Instructor, Design Thinking will report directly to the Dean, School of Arts and Sciences.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Department Chair and instructional designer to plan, design, implement, and deliver the new course Design Thinking.
  • Ensure the delivery is meaningful and understandable in meeting the College’s expectations and student success.
  • Conduct teaching and student learning assessment bi-weekly for performance improvement.
  • Be the resource that prepares students for a productive learning experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in the topic area.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of human centric analysis and focus.
  • Ability to integrate knowledge with historical and fundamental theories surrounding design.
  • Strong demonstration of a deep commitment to the College’s mission of nurturing student success, achievement, and persistence.
  • Ability to develop and execute technology competencies and strategies that facilitate 21st century literacies.
  • Excellent and effective interpersonal, verbal communication, and writing skills.
  • Experience in Canvas is preferred.
  • Ap mindset and experience are highly preferred.
  • Bilingual language is a plus.


Working Conditions

  • Remote with varying work times to be responsive to clients in the US.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day. May require travel to other locations occasionally.
