ABOUT THE ROLE

AUI is seeking an Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager assists the Division Controller and the Corporate Controller with the effective operation of Division Accounting, including month-end close, monthly reporting requirements, collaboration with accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, management reporting, continuous process improvements, and ensuring that financial statements are prepared in compliance with policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

This role will report directly to the Division Controller of AUI and oversees a team of 2.

As a response to the pandemic, Albert Uster Imports office employees have transitioned to a hybrid working schedule, requiring employees to report in-person Monday through Wednesday, with the option to telework on Thursday and Friday each week. Due to the collaborative, cross-functional nature of the organization, employees at the Gaithersburg office are required to work in-person for the abovementioned days, outside of any People & Culture-approved disability accommodation request.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of the month-end close process, including reviewing journal entries prepared by staff, preparing accruals and reserve support, and ensuring the general ledger is complete, materially accurate, and closed timely and in accordance with internal and external reporting requirements
  • Review and participate in the monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, ensuring accounts are reconciled timely and reconciling items are addressed appropriately
  • Oversee and direct staff while promoting process efficiencies and ensuring compliance with internal and external policies and reporting requirements
  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and in compliance with policies and procedures
  • Assists with external audits (financial and sales/use tax), including preparation of audit schedules and serve as a liaison between external auditors and the business
  • Coordinate third party outsourced consultants to complete monthly, quarterly, and annual Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including income, property, and sales and use taxes)
  • Manage various state tax filings and payments
  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis as needed by management
  • Drive improvements to the internal accounting processes through automation, improved accuracy, and efficiency
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including prior experience as a manager or similar position within a $50+ million revenue, entrepreneurial, high-growth organization; 2+ years of public accounting experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
  • Proficiency with MS Dynamics/GP or similar ERP System
  • Prior inventory experience
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, with outstanding attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with, manage, motivate, and support the team’s staff
