Director of Development


The Opportunity

Hand to Hold is a national non-profit organization providing personalized support before, during, and after a NICU stay to help ensure all NICU families thrive.    

 

As a 2022 Best Place for Working Parents® business, our dynamic, growing organization seeks a Development Director to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer, this person will play a vital role in helping to build and execute the strategic development plan for Hand to Hold.  

 

This position is an integral part of the leadership team, helping to drive overall strategy for the organization, and will be instrumental in ensuring consistent and effective internal processes, communications, and metric evaluation in order to position Hand to Hold to achieve its bold revenue goals.


Duties & Expectations

 

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

  • Develop a comprehensive donor cultivation and solicitation strategy to meet or exceed organizational budget goals

  • Manage implementation of all cultivation, solicitation, and donor relations strategies and activities related to individual donors, private foundations, and corporate gifts

  • Forge n relationships with the Board of Directors that are significant and encourage meaningful gifts of both time and funding

  • Update and maintain Hand to Hold’s stewardship policy

  • Secure donations via major gifts, planned giving, board relations, individual giving, and a robust year-end strategy with annual appeals, events, foundation and corporate grants, online giving, and social media

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts both restricted and unrestricted, working with key leadership and committee members as appropriate

  • Maintain an active portfolio of prospects and monitor progress utilizing Hubspot CRM, Hubspot Marketing & Hubspot Sales management tools

  • Oversee Hubspot CRM donor database management and donor acknowledgments

 

Grant Writing & Management

  • Oversee all grant writing activities, including research and identification, LOI/proposal writing, budget creation, and reporting, and serve as primary liaison to grant funders and prospects.

  • Ensure timely approval and submission of grant funding proposals to private and public funders.

  • Effectively coach and supervise Grant Writing Contractor in grant writing efforts to ensure achievement of fundraising goals.

 

Strategy & Management

  • Positively contribute to the leadership team to develop a comprehensive annual revenue plan to ensure funding available to meet bold goals for lives impacted

  • Work in tandem with the marketing team to develop and implement strategic marketing, PR, communication, and collateral plans to support diverse fundraising efforts including live and virtual events, annual giving, corporate and foundation partnerships, major gifts, and more

  • Track all funding metrics on a regular basis to ensure goals are met and/or adjusted as needed

  • Oversee the Development team and work with each team member to identify goals and benchmarks for success, and ensure targets are hit and/or adjusted as needed

  • Develop and oversee budgets, progress, deadlines, goals, and objectives related to responsibilities

 

Other Duties

  • Attend and support Hand to Hold events and programs

  • Manage Volunteer Coordinator

  • Review monthly financial reports and oversee reconciliation with the finance team

  • Support annual audit as needed

  • Other duties as assigned


Our Ideal Candidate has

  • Experience working in digital fundraising, existing donor relationships in the Austin area

  • The ability to transform corporate sponsorships into more substantial sponsorships while forging relationships with new corporate partners

  • Previous experience leading successful giving society campaigns

  • Strength in managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and performance

  • A strong background in strategy is creative, bold and a thought leader excited by opportunities for growth with the ability to write compelling language around funding for mental health and NICU support

  • Personal experience with a child or loved one in the NICU


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 

  • Minimum 7 years of nonprofit development experience and 2 years in a team management role

  • Ability to commute to Austin, TX 78750

  • Strong project management skills managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and growth

  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace

  • Available to travel for donor meetings, industry meetings, and conferences

  • Proficient in HubSpot CRM software or experience in other donor database systems and willingness to learn

  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to meet deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail

Pay & Benefits:

  • Exempt, salaried position of $85,000-105,000 plus annual bonus, commensurate with experience

  • Benefits provided include 15 days paid time off, sick time accrual, 14 paid holidays per year, and Summer Fridays
