Day One (NASDAQ: DAWN) was founded to address a critical unmet need: children with cancer are being left behind in a cancer drug development revolution. Our name was inspired by the “The Day One Talk” that physicians have with patients and their families about an initial cancer diagnosis and treatment plan. We aim to re-envision cancer drug development and redefine what’s possible for all people living with cancer—regardless of age—starting from Day One.



SUMMARY: 


We are seeking a Director of Corporate Communications who will shape and deliver a holistic external and internal communications strategy for Day One. .  While this role will partner closely with the CEO, the COO/CFO, Investor Relations, Human Resources, and other members of the Executive Leadership Team, it is uniquely designed to partner with the Chief Commercial Officer to deliver one consistent and aligned voice to all key stakeholders that reflects Day One’s strategy, values, and priorities.


The right candidate is an independent and flexible professional who can effectively design and execute on a purposeful strategy for communications, convene and drive alignment across diverse cross-functional teams, and manage key deliverables to conclusion on time and on budget. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

External Communications

  • Serve as the steward of the Day One strategic communications plan, identifying multi-channel opportunities to convey the corporate narrative and progress toward our mission across audience segments
  • Partner with functional leaders and subject matter experts to manage a clear and compelling corporate narrative that articulates our principles, mission and core values, and supports thought leadership within the communities we serve
  • Actively collaborate with teams to manage a proactive, well planned external media strategy, including preparation and execution of corporate and business announcements, media opportunities in line with external events and/or earnings activities, and opportunistic media relations, with support from a PR agency. Facilitate and ensure compliance to the corporate disclosure process, in collaboration with IR.
  • Design and execute a comprehensive digital and social media strategy to disseminate the corporate narrative across channels and complement the company’s external presence; maintain the company’s existing channels and manage a digital firm to develop and maintain a new corporate website; key functional partners will include advocacy, HR, and Investor Relations


  • Internal Employee Communications

  • Partner with the CEO, CCO and Head of HR to define and initiate an internal communication strategy and roadmap aligned with Day One’s mission, core values and cultural goals to achieve the goal of providing continual, transparent communication to employees.
  • Facilitates execution of regular internal communications, including collaborating with leadership on critical messaging and preparing materials for all company meetings, recommending additional channels and vehicles for communications to ensure unified, relevant and meaningful messaging is delivered to employees.
  • Lead strategy for development of corporate intranet, including identifying and onboarding appropriate vendors to build / manage site that is oriented toward communication and collaboration mechanisms, with capacity to grow and evolve over time.


  • Operational Responsibilities

  • Serve as the steward of the corporate brand, collaborating with leadership and cross-functional team members to ensure consistent dissemination of the corporate brand and narrative across materials and events, including branded, medical, industry, advocacy, and research meetings and presentations, and, in addition,
    • Serve as an expert communications counsel to functional leaders as needed to support business and operational objectives
    • Supports preparations and execution of issues management and messaging, in close collaboration with IR, legal, HR and other leadership teams as appropriate
  • Set, track, and report key metrics that demonstrate the impact of communications strategies and tactics throughout the year
  • Responsibly execute on functional priorities by closely tracking budgets across programs and effectively managing all engaged vendors

    EDUCATION: 

    • 10+ years of marketing, communication, and/or brand management experience in a publicly-traded healthcare/biotechnology company
    • BA/BS degree required; advanced degree a plus


    EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

    • Proven comprehension of the biotechnology industry and ability to articulate complex scientific concepts simply and persuasively to enable broad understanding and engagement
    • Understanding of FDA and other regulations associated with healthcare communications and ability to engage by channel, including expert knowledge of communications trends and evolving platforms
    • Proven competency in building and maintaining relationships with media, patient advocacy organizations and other internal and external constituents
    • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, influence, and communications skill with the proven ability to communicate effectively across all departments and levels of the organization and facilitate alignment to execute on business goals
    • Proven ability to establish internal communication and change management best practices, including pulling through cultural norms and values across a scaling organization
    • Excellent written communication skills with a track record of generating clear, accurate, and compelling materials
    • Effective resource/vendor management; can determine the appropriate use of internal vs. external resources and delivers results on time and on budget
    • Is flexible, innovative and adaptable - Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced working environment, display strong judgment, and work diplomatically and tactfully with others
    • Demonstrate Day One’s core values and the attributes that support these core values (integrity, commitment, humility, collaboration, impact)
