PURPOSE OF POSITION: Reporting to the Director of Development Operations, the Volunteer Manager leads the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of Covenant House Georgia’s (CHGA) volunteer program. This role is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, coordination, engagement, and retention of both individual and group volunteers across the organization.
The Volunteer Manager oversees all aspects of volunteer logistics and execution, from managing individual placements to planning large-scale service days, ensuring high-quality experiences for volunteers and alignment with CHGA’s mission and programming needs.
This position also leads the organization’s in-kind donation strategy, manages the Covey Guild women’s volunteer group, and coordinates major holiday initiatives for youth. The Volunteer Manager works cross-functionally with delivering impactful, mission-centered volunteer engagement that enhances stewardship and community connection.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Covenant House Georgia reserves the right to unilaterally modify, remove, or add to any of the following
Volunteer Engagement & Management
. Serve as the primary liaison and point of contact between Covenant House Georgia and volunteers.
. Plan and execute group volunteer service days ranging from 10 to 150 participants.
. Oversee onboarding, training, scheduling, and coordination of all individual and group volunteers using VolunteerHub or other designated systems.
. Ensure all volunteer documentation (e.g., waivers, background checks, training records, hours logged) is maintained accurately and in a timely manner.
. Work with the Compliance and Quality Improvement department to administer and update volunteer policies, safety protocols, and procedures, as well as support the planning and documentation of large-scale service days.
. Work with the Events Manager to identify and coordinate volunteer support for events, including Sleep Out, as needed.
. Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to develop content and outreach materials that highlight volunteer engagement and promote opportunities through social media and email communications.
. Partner with the Philanthropic Officer, Institutions and Philanthropic Officer, Individuals to share stewardship touchpoints with institutions and individuals, supporting continued relationship development and engagement.
. Plan volunteer appreciation efforts throughout the year, including National Volunteer Month.
. Lead planning and coordination for Covenant House Georgia’s involvement in the October Pride Parade by engaging with Pride ERGs from community partners.
. Participate in monthly campus walkthroughs alongside Compliance, Facilities, and the CEO to identify areas where volunteer support is needed.
. Maintain a 24-business-hour response time for all volunteer inquiries.
. Represent CHGA at program meetings to align volunteer efforts with programmatic and the facility's needs.
. Manage interns as needed by supporting their professional development and identifying projects to support organizational goals.
In-Kind Donations
. Oversee the full lifecycle of in-kind donations to ensure youth and program needs are met year-round.
. Coordinate with individuals, companies, and community groups to solicit, collect, and organize donation drives.
. Maintain and update Amazon Wishlists and registries based on evolving campus needs.
Volunteer Leadership Groups & Holiday Initiatives
. Serve as the primary point of contact for the Covey Guild, CHGA’s women’s volunteer group, ensuring members remain informed of campus updates, volunteer needs, and organizational priorities.
. Support the Covey Guild President in planning and executing major events, including Holiday Fest and Prom.
. Manage Covey Guild dues collection and oversee the group’s budget in coordination with Finance.
. Lead the annual youth winter holiday gift initiative, ensuring all youth receive gifts by:
o Collaborating with the programs team to gather youth wish lists
o Updating and managing the Amazon registry
o Conducting community outreach for sponsorships
o Coordinating volunteer led gift wrapping and campus decorating
Community & Corporate Engagement
. Facilitate off-site impact sessions with corporate, civic, and faith-based partners, sharing accurate, mission-aligned information about CHGA’s work.
. Partner with the Philanthropic Officer of Institutions to build and steward strong community relationships that support year-round engagement.
General Duties:
. Represent Covenant House Georgia in public meetings, onsite tours, and presentations to the community.
. Develop and deliver orientations, training modules, and outreach materials as needed.
. Provide monthly and/or quarterly reporting, including reconciliation with accounting where applicable.
. Maintain a safe environment for youth, staff, volunteers, and visitors by modeling and upholding all CHGA policies and procedures.
. Participate in additional CHGA programs and activities as required.
. Establish and maintain effective working relationships across departments and with external stakeholders.
. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external partners.
. Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues.
. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
. Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of professional experience in a nonprofit, administrative, or volunteer coordinator role.
. Excellent organizational skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
. Comfort working independently while collaborating across teams.
. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
. Experience working with donor or volunteer CRM systems.
. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, and Microsoft Workspace.
. Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent donor service and handling sensitive information with discretion.
. Enthusiasm for Covenant House Georgia’s mission to serve youth experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.
Preferred Qualifications
. Understanding of volunteer programs, stewardship best practices and familiarity with in-kind operations.
. Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to ask questions, propose improvements, and manage up when needed.
Work Environment & Expectations
. Hybrid work schedule available; occasional evening or weekend event support required.
. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment where flexibility and adaptability are valued.
. Occasional local travel for meetings and events.
. Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, representatives of other agencies, and the public.
. Effectively communicate verbally with both internal and external individuals and/or businesses.
Work/Physical Demands:
. Ability to work standing, walking, and/or sitting a minimum of 8 hours per day/shift.
. The ability to drive agency or personal vehicles to transport items and/or people.
. Valid Georgia Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
. Ability to travel as needed for training or to fulfill job requirements.
. Typically sits for extended periods at a computer workstation.
. Must be able to see, hear, touch, feel, lift (up to 20 - 50 lbs.) and stand for short periods of time.
