Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for an Environmental Health & Safety Manager at Sakuu located in San Jose, CA. The EH&S Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety, health, and environmental programs in Sakuu’s lab and production environments.  This leader will be responsible for strategic planning, risk management, budgeting, training and overall corporate governance related to safety within Sakuu’s work spaces.

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in managing EHS or similar programs in the energy storage / similar materials environments
  • Ability to develop and execute long-term EH&S strategies that are aligned with corporate objectives and Sakuu’s platform products
  • Leadership of safety committees, steering groups, and cross-functional governance structures
  • Has an understanding of and ability to drive compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements for safe work environments
  • EHS-related licenses, certifications and/or membership in EHS professional associations are desired
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Provide policies and training regarding hazardous substances, waste storage, material handling, and safety practices
  • Must be able to work autonomously as situation dictates
  • Good interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate system requirements verbally and in writing

 

Job Duties

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Engage regulatory and other entities as needed to ensure compliance
  • Promotes and ensures a safe environment for employees and the general public while on premises
  • Conducts safety training and knowledge shares as needed / required
  • Drives incident management, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventative action (CAPA) systems
  • Maintains close contact with assigned areas and locations resolving safety sensitive issues
  • Drives adherence to strict action plans for maintaining a safe work environment and regulatory compliance regarding hazardous waste, stormwater, air emissions, and sustainability regulations
  • Manages safety meetings, training programs, safety reviews and other meetings as needed to remain current on any changes or upgrades
  • Facilitates reporting requirements for federal, state, and local agencies
  • Provides safety and compliance training as required
  • Provides consultation and recommendations for safety, fire protection and emergency response issues
  • Partners with engineering, operations, and facilities teams to integrate safety into design and process changes
  • Foster a proactive, transparent, and accountable safety culture across all departments
