The Role - Responsibilities
The powder development engineer will develop, characterize, and optimize dry powder formulations for battery application. The role takes various customer or internal application and material requirements and translates them into printable and scalable powder systems on the Kavian platform. The work will be hands-on with materials, processing tools, and characterization methods to enable reliable powder behaviors across multiple processes and techniques.
What you will do - Responsibilities

Develop and optimize dry powder formulations for battery electrodes and customer-specific configurations.

Evaluating powder properties and studying powder interactions relevant to dry electrode printing.

Supporting existing powder processing steps and development of processing for new materials.

Design and execute structured experiments to understand and optimize powder properties for various printability and electrochemical performance requirements.

Collaborate with process and equipment engineers to ensure customer designed formulations are compatible with process, hardware, and customer performance targets.
What You Bring – Requirements
-
Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or closely related field

3-5+ years of experience in materials, powder development, battery materials, or electrochemical systems.

Strong understanding of battery electrode materials and electrochemistry fundamentals

Familiarity with powder characterization techniques

Hands-on mindset to work directly with the material and machines

Ability to design experiments, analyze data, and make quantitative, defensible conclusions

Ability to work in fast-based, often ambiguous start-up environment
Nice to Haves

Experience with powder flow models

Experience with various mixing technologies, surface treatments, particle coating approaches

Exposure to battery processes like calendering, coating, material preparation

Data analysis skills using JMP, Python, or similar tools

Prior work in start-up environment

Additional Details

Sakuu will expect candidates to work onsite at South San Jose location. Remote work schedules are not available.
The estimated compensation range for a new hire in this position is $130,000 to $190,000. Actual compensation may vary depending on job-related factors, which may include candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to a competitive base salary, discretionary target cash bonus, Sakuu offers full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and disability insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan.
