Controls Systems Engineer


Job Summary:

We seek a highly skilled and motivated Control Systems Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will design, develop, and maintain control systems for industrial automation, processes, and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in control theory, programming, and system integration, and will work collaboratively to ensure the efficiency, reliability, and safety of our control systems.


 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Control System Design & Development:
    • Design, implement, and optimize control systems for automated equipment and processes.
    • Develop control strategies using PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), OPC UA (OPC Unified Architecture), and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems.
    • Conduct system simulations and performance testing to ensure control system functionality and accuracy.
    • Develop and maintain data acquisition pipelines.
  • Programming & Configuration:
    • Program and configure PLCs, SCADA and HMIs systems in various programming languages such as ladder logic, function block, structured text, and others.
    • Write detailed specifications, software documentation, and operator manuals for control systems.
  • System Integration & Testing:
    • Integrate new and existing equipment with control systems to ensure seamless communication and operation.
    • Test and validate systems and components to verify design specifications, functionality, and performance standards.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with hardware, software, and communication networks.
  • Optimization & Continuous Improvement:
    • Monitor control system performance and recommend improvements to enhance system efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Implement control strategies for performance optimization, energy savings, and process improvements.
  • Collaboration & Support:
    • Work closely with project managers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure control systems meet project requirements and deadlines.
    • Provide technical support during the commissioning and start-up phases of projects.
    • Offer ongoing support and training to operators and maintenance personnel regarding control system operation and troubleshooting.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure that control systems meet safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies.
    • Participate in risk assessments and system safety analysis to ensure operational safety.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of experience in control systems engineering, industrial automation, or a similar role.
    • Experience with PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, or similar brands).
    • Familiarity SCADA systems, HMI development, and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Serial, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, etc.).
    • Experience with process control systems, instrumentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of control theory, PID control, feedback loops, and system dynamics.
    • Proficiency in control system software and tools (e.g., RSLogix, TIA Portal, Sysmac Studio, Wonderware, etc.).
    • Knowledge of network protocols and industrial communication standards.
    • Experience with troubleshooting hardware and software systems in a real-time environment.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
    • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in industries such as manufacturing, battery, power generation, or automotive.
  • Certification in control systems or automation.
  • Six Sigma training and certification is a plus.
