Position Summary:

Calviri is an early-stage healthcare company building exceptional research and product development teams. We are seeking highly motivated scientists to join the company’s forward-thinking efforts in developing diagnostic and vaccine products to detect cancer early or prevent it from starting.

Our mission is to provide a broad spectrum of fundamentally different diagnostics and vaccines that will end deaths from cancer. Calviri is focused on using frameshift neo-antigens derived from errors in RNA synthesis and processing to provide these pioneering products. As a bioinformatics software engineer you will work as part of a cross-functional team with biostatistics, software and algorithm development, data mining, and discovery and verification of novel neo-antigen peptides. We are seeking a highly motivated and capable bioinformatics scientist with string coding skills, background in statistics and working with multiple bioinformatics tools and databases.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct analysis to improve classification and analysis systems
  • Translate insight from model systems into predictors and classifiers from neo-antigen peptide microarray data
  • Utilize known databases such as NCBI RefSeq, Ensembl, TCGA, Genome Browser, BLAST, and NCI Genomic Data Commons
  • Develop and implement analysis pipelines
  • Work with DevOps engineers to automate analysis pipelines on Kubernetes clusters in Azure
  • Collaborate with scientists to design and develop data mining algorithms for neo-antigen peptide discovery
  • Automate data flow, pipelines and maintaining databases for genomic data (raw and processed)
  • Collaborate with DevOps engineers to create interfaces that allow for direct data access, as well as providing insights from statistical analysis
  • Lead initiatives in developing our statistics and bioinformatics shared codebase under version control
  • Utilize industry best practices for configuring, customizing and operationally managing bioinformatic and statistical software

Qualifications:

  • Minimally 5 years experience working on bioinformatics challenges in an industry setting
  • Demonstrated expertise in Python
  • Working knowledge of bioinformatics tools such as Biopython, Bioconductor, local BLAST, Clustal, Galaxy, and GenePattern
  • Working knowledge of SAS and/or R with an understanding of statistical methods
  • Experience utilizing Azure cloud services
  • Demonstrable abilities to mentor team members in best practices, partner with colleagues and collaborators to develop and implement new initiatives, and in fostering positive change
  • Experience working with relational databases preferably MySQL
  • Experience working with NoSQL Databases preferably Cosmos dB
  • Detail oriented with an initiative to drive tasks to completion
  • Ability to work well in a rapid-paced environment
  • Ability to work well in a group and independently
  • Proficient communicator with great written and verbal English fluency

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of:

  • String background with statistics and classification models
  • Python
  • SAS and/or R
  • SQL & NoSQL databases
  • Bioinformatics Tools/APIs
  • Azure Cloud Services (preferably 1+ year's experience )  

Our company is located at two sites in the Greater Phoenix Metroplex: Tempe and Phoenix, AZ. Salary is competitive.
