Position Summary

We seek a highly motivated individual to join us as an Academic Support Specialist for English Language Proficiency and Academic Writing, providing comprehensive support to students who need support with English language skills and academic writing. Under the Direction of the Chief Learning Officer, this role includes offering supplemental instruction, conducting workshops, and providing individualized tutoring to help students improve their language proficiency and writing abilities.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions in English language proficiency and academic writing.

  • Develop and facilitate workshops on academic writing, grammar, and language skills.

  • Assist students with writing assignments, research papers, and other coursework.

  • Work with faculty in designated courses to provide students with course-related relevant support 

  • Collaborate with faculty to identify students in need of additional support.

  • Coordinates and works with faculty and CLO in developing Student Learning Outcomes.

  • Maintain regular drop-in tutorial hours for students seeking help.

  • Utilize best practices for teaching English to diverse learners, including those with learning disabilities, neurodivergent students, and students whose first language is not English.

  • Track and report on student progress and outcomes.

  • Develop procedures for record keeping of content and attendance for each tutoring session and assist with other administrative tasks as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned



Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, TESOL, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Experience in tutoring or teaching English language and academic writing at the high school or college level (University experience preferred).

  • Current knowledge of second language acquisition and ESL methodologies.



Required Skills/ Abilities

 

  • Strong understanding of English language acquisition and academic writing principles.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of proficiency.

  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.

  • Training in best practices for supporting students with learning disabilities, neurodivergent students, and English language learners is a plus.

 

Salary Range: $67,340 - $78,000 annually, depending on experience.
