Position Overview:

 

The Department of Business seeks a qualified Teaching Assistant (TA) to support business course faculty and report directly to the Department Chair. The TA will provide instructional coordination and course faculty support, including accreditation-related documentation and testing/supporting the MBA+ program. Under faculty and chair supervision, the TA will help keep courses and department operations running smoothly, assist with student support and communications, and contribute to documentation, reporting, and continuous-improvement activities. This is a part-time, non-exempt position based in Fremont, CA, with eligibility for a hybrid work schedule.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Instructional & Student Support (Faculty-Supervised) 

  • Assist professors with course preparation and instructional support. 

  • Provide student support through peer assistance (e.g., clarifying course requirements, helping students navigate resources, and reinforcing course concepts under faculty guidance). 

  • Support classroom and course activities, including breakout sessions, workshops, presentations, and guest speaker sessions, as assigned. 

  • Help track student participation, project milestones, and course deliverables; escalate academic concerns to faculty as appropriate. 

 

Department Administration & Chair Support 

  • Provide administrative support to the Department Chair and faculty, including scheduling, coordination, and follow-up communications. 

  • Assist with departmental documentation, including meeting notes, action-item tracking, shared files, and internal communications. 

  • Coordinate logistics for department activities (e.g., events, panels, orientations, employer/mentor engagement, and special sessions). 

 

Accreditation, Assessment & Continuous Improvement 

  • Assist with accreditation-related tasks, including organizing evidence, compiling documentation, and formatting reports in alignment with department and institutional requirements. 

  • Support assessment activities by organizing course artifacts, outcomes documentation, and continuous-improvement materials (as directed by the Chair/faculty). 

  • Maintain organized digital records using established naming conventions and version control practices. 

  • Assist with testing workflows and student-facing processes for the MBA+ program (e.g., course navigation, communications, forms, and program operations), documenting issues and recommending improvements. 

  • Support program requirements tracking and administrative coordination as assigned by the Chair. 

  • Help compile feedback and summarize findings to support ongoing program refinement. 

 

Other Duties: 

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the instructor or academic department.

Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications 

 

  • Second-semester graduate student in Business or third- or fourth-year undergraduate in a Business program. 

  • Completion of prior business coursework is required, and demonstrated academic readiness to support peers is required. 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette.  Proficiency with common productivity tools (e.g., Canvas, Google Workspace or Microsoft Office). 

  • Ability to commit to approximately 20 hours per week during the academic term. 

  • Ability to work on-site in Fremont, CA. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • Previously completing multiple business courses in areas such as accounting, finance, economics, analytics, management, marketing, operations, or entrepreneurship is recommended. 

  • Prior experience as a TA, tutor, peer mentor, or administrative assistant is recommended but not required. 

  • Experience supporting documentation-heavy projects (e.g., assessment, compliance, reporting, or accreditation work).

  •  Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and basic data tracking/reporting. 

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and comfort with testing processes, documenting issues, and proposing improvements. 



Compensation: $20–$22 per hour, depending on experience.

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands:  

 

  • Job duties typically performed in an office environment.

  • Physical demands may include lifting up to 20 lbs, bending, sitting, driving.

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit or stand for long periods.
