Job Summary:
The Teaching Assistant (TA) will support the instructor in delivering course content related to Networking, including CCNA, and Cisco Academy. The TA will assist in managing hands-on lab activities, grading, student support, and exam proctoring. This position requires technical proficiency, strong communication skills, and a commitment to upholding SFBU's academic standards and integrity.

Class Details:

  • Course Title: CS470 –  Network Engineering and Management
  • Class Meeting Time: Wednesday, Friday, 6:00 PM – 7:15 PM
  • Location: SFBU – Classroom TBD 

Key Responsibilities:

Office Hours:

  • Hold 3 office hours weekly to support students with questions and assignments.
  • Coordinate with other TAs (if applicable) to ensure at least 3 total office hours are available weekly.

Classroom and Lab Support:

  • Assist the instructor during class with live demonstrations, technical explanations, and real-time support.
  • Provide guidance to students on lab assignments involving CCNA, and Cisc Academy, Physical Lab, and Simulation.
  • Support students in using simulation tools or virtual machines as needed.

Grading and Assessment:

  • Grade homework, lab assignments, and quizzes (excluding midterms and final exams).
  • Ensure timely and accurate grading in alignment with provided rubrics.

Course Material and Research Support:

  • Help prepare course materials (e.g., slides, practice problems, lab instructions).
  • Research examples or tools that can enhance student understanding of Networking concepts.

Proctoring Responsibilities:

  • Assist in proctoring exams while maintaining a disciplined and quiet environment.
  • Report any suspicious behavior to the instructor without direct confrontation during the exam.
  • Support preventive measures against academic dishonesty.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the instructor or academic department.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree in a related field in business
  • Enrollment in a Graduate Program: Candidates must be enrolled in a master’s program at SFBU.
  • Relevant Coursework: Candidates should be familiar with Network, Router, Operating Systems and be familiar with Network Engineering and Management technologies.

Salary Range: $20-$22 per hour, depending on experience.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

 

  • Job duties typically performed in an office environment.
  • Physical demands may include lifting up to 20 lbs, bending, sitting, driving.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit or stand for long periods.
