Position Overview:
SFBU seeks to hire an experienced and motivated individual to work with the General Counsel on general legal matters involving SFBU and higher education issues, and other matters including nonprofit corporate governance, HR, real estate and student housing, and general liability. This individual will play an important role in maintaining corporate records, managing due diligence processes, preparing legal and HR documents, and supporting various operational projects and initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the General Counsel in maintaining and organizing corporate records and files

Ensure compliance with corporate governance and regulatory requirements

In collaboration with the Compliance and Risk Officer, ensure regulatory compliance for university operations and facilities

Draft corporate documents such as resolutions and minutes

Coordinate with internal stakeholders on legal matters

Draft and review contracts and other legal documents as directed by the General Counsel

Assist in the preparation of Board meetings and communications with the Board working with the General Counsel and the Office of the President.

Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting the University.

Assist in the development and implementation of University policies and procedures.

Handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

Assist the Chief Operating Officer in matters relating to HR, SFBU real estate portfolio, student housing, and operational and facilities matters of the University.

Coordinate with external legal counsel as needed.

Provide some administrative support for the General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer as needed.

Support all other projects and initiatives of the General Counsel as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field.

Paralegal certification from an accredited institution.

Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience as a corporate paralegal.

Strong knowledge of nonprofit corporate governance, compliance, and legal terminology.

Strong proficiency in both Microsoft and Google office platforms.

Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills including writing ability.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong understanding of nonprofit corporate law and governance.

Strong understanding of HR laws and processes.

Understanding of higher education processes.

Strong proficiency in legal research and writing.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to organize and effectively prioritize and problem solve multiple tasks.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace (Google Docs, Gmail, Google Drives, etc.).

High level of professionalism, judgment, detail, discretion, and confidentiality.

Ability to take direction from supervisors and to collaborate with peers.

Ability to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.

Excellent organizational skills, be detail oriented, and be able to work in a highly collaborative environment.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Job duties are typically performed in an office environment.

Physical demands may include lifting up to 20 lbs, bending, sitting, and standing.

The employee is occasionally required to sit or stand for long periods.

Minimal travel, if any.
Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000 (commensurate with experience)
