Your impact at Kinnate

As Kinnate's Sr Scientist, Scientific Information Systems you are a dynamic and collaborative data scientist.  You are an experienced biological data scientist with a background in data engineering to bring your skills to our team. This position is fundamental within the discovery team, focusing on deriving insights from multiple internal and external data sets, in collaboration with chemists, biologists, and clinicians within and outside of the company. We are focused on delivering the next generation of cancer therapeutics through driving biological insights and chemical optimization. This is a great opportunity to tackle a diverse set of problems while working within a highly matrixed, collaborative team.

Responsibilities 

  • Collaboratively build upon current data architecture to expand data analysis and visualization tools for deployment across the Kinnate team
  • Create custom data visualizations and analysis approaches to aid in understanding experiment results
  • Collaborate with scientists to translate hypotheses into appropriate data algorithms and visualizations of data to provide conclusions and new insights.
  • Proactive analysis of data to inform scientists of new correlations and directions for optimizing biological and chemical
  • Identify problems and suggest improvements

 

The Right Stuff

  • MS or PhD in chemistry, biology, statistics, computational biology, bioinformatics, genetics, or computer science
  • Familiarity with common biological assays
  • Proficiency with programming languages and web application design (R and R Shiny, Python, javascript, css, html)
  • Expert understanding of relational databases (Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, RDS, DynamoDB), SQL (DDL/DML/DQL), ERD, ETL, data warehousing and database optimization
  • Strong understanding and use of interfaces such as REST, SOAP and APIs and associated data structures such as JSON and XML
  • Experience with developing and management of cloud computing environments (Azure and AWS)
  • Knowledge and utilization of various file storage types such as AWS S3 Azure Blob, SharePoint Document Repository, AWS FSx and others
  • Familiarity with web protocols and networking
  • Demonstrated history of scientific data systems integration
  • Experience with data visualization tools - Dotmatics and Spotfire preferred
  • Curious and eager to learn, self-motivated, great communicator, thriving in a dynamic and intellectually challenging environment
  • Organized and driven, critical thinker
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Available to meet with staff in San Diego and San Francisco during business hours in California.
  • Able to work full time
