Job Description:

Skilled copywriter responsible for writing engaging copy for scripted advertising, production and promotional materials for Exactly Right network and catalog of shows, including My Favorite Murder. Ideal candidates will have a background in writing for branded content, creative advertising agencies and/or scripted content in the entertainment industry. This role crosses Advertising, Marketing, Production and PR departments.  

Ongoing and daily duties and responsibilities include:

  • Strategize, conceptualize and execute high-impact scripted copy for My Favorite Murder and Exactly Right advertisements, promotions, trailers, newsletters, press releases and other scripted and promotional materials.
  • Provide scripted copy for weekly advertising campaigns tailored to the unique voice/tone of the host(s) of ERM’s 15+ podcasts while also hitting brand talking points and effectively promoting the sale of products and use of promo codes.
  • Collaborate with our in-house marketing team to develop and maintain a strong brand voice for network promotional content.
  • Create engaging trailers and promos for podcast launches, promo swaps with off network podcasts and other ongoing network promotions like merchandising or live events.
  • Collaborate with PR, marketing teams and stakeholders to write press releases and other press related materials for all show launches and ongoing show promotion.
  • Create positioning language and help craft creative content for new and existing podcasts.
  • Proofread copy for social media campaigns.
  • Route drafts to key stakeholders for edits. Possess an ability to incorporate notes and work collaboratively across multiple departments.
  • Align with the advertising, marketing, production and development teams and key company shareholders on overall approach.
  • Quickly pivot content strategy as needed in an ever-changing environment.
  • Consult with podcast talent for show-specific content.
  • Identify timely trends and pitch ideas that drive engagement.

 

Education & Experience / Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in film, marketing, journalism, public relations, communications or similar fields.
  • Expert writing skills for branded and scripted copy.
  • Understanding of best practices as it pertains to writing content to be read aloud by a variety of host voices.
  • Strong internal and external communication skills.
  • Proven track record of managing a high volume of creative assets across multiple campaigns.
  • Skilled collaborator with ability to move between broad macro goals and tactical implementation.
  • Proficiency in project management tools/systems (Google Workspace, Microsoft, etc).

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong portfolio of previous work required.
  • A passion for podcasts and compelling storytelling.
  • Experience working in a professional setting - preferably in branded content, podcasting and/or entertainment social media.
  • Ability to match a range of brand voices to service all podcasts on the network in true crime, comedy and other genres.
  • Experience collaborating with talent and/or influencers.
  • Ability to successfully balance the needs of the network and branded partners.
  • Comfortable generating original work and collaborating with talent on the publication of creative campaigns.
  • Proactive, solution-based thinker.
  • Skills in copywriting, performance insights and presentations.
  • Ability to handle a wide variety of tasks and assignments in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision, while able to follow direction.
  • Relentless attention to detail.

 

Work Environment:

  • Standard office and in-studio environment in Burbank. 
  • Some weekend, holiday and after-hours work may be required aligned to coverage of significant occasions (e.g., live events, award shows, off-hours podcast recordings, etc.).
  • A minimum amount of travel may be required.
