Andelyn Biosciences’ is seeking a motivated individual to join our growing team as the

Chief Operations Officer.


Provides strategic leadership for CGMP Manufacturing and associated operations functions including Facilities & Equipment. Oversees and directs operations planning, ensures collaboration & coordinated approach across the operations functions to optimize site utilization, client responsiveness, and materials and people utilization.  Facilitates coordination between Operations units, Manufacturing Sciences & Technology, Quality, other internal organizations, and external partners/suppliers.  Develop and communicate clear operations strategy, supported by robust KPIs to monitor and direct day-to-day operational effectiveness.

Under the guidance and direction of the Chief Executive Officer essential functions of the Chief Operations Officer include at a minimum: 

  • Provide leadership and direction to departmental managers within the Operations organization – Manufacturing, Facilities & Equipment 
  • Utilize and direct the operations planning function to optimally plan and coordinate within the operations functions and collaboratively with Client Management and other groups as necessary 
  • Ensure adequate and effective coaching and support processes and practices are in place throughout the Operations organization 
  • Oversee and champion skill upgrading and organizational improvement initiatives in the Operations organization 
  • Develop and maintain short and long-term plans to achieve business and operational objectives for the organization 
  • Able to set strategic direction and appropriate budgets to drive compliant business performance and growth 
  • Develops forecasts, determines, and responds to budget, staffing, capital, and resource requirements across Operations  
  • Participate as a key member of the site leadership team 
  • Identify, champion, and drive improvement initiatives within Operations and across the site with other site leadership team members 
  • Exercise discretion, judgment, and personal responsibility 
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity 
  • Maintain a positive attitude 
  • Attention to detail in all job functions 
  • Performs in accordance with established policies, procedures, and techniques and requires training common experience or working knowledge related to the tasks performed

  • Develop and define measurable objectives for the staff within their functional units to fit the objectives of the overall organization. Also is involved in organizational objectives on an executive level 
  • Cultivate a diverse and collaborative team environment. Utilizes clear and concise communication to ensure high productivity and contribution to the success of organizational goals 
  • Ultimate oversight on development and enforcement of procedures and controls 
  • Establish a strategic process to control work procedure 
  • Complete budgetary control over the functions under their control also influences the organizational budget establishment 
  • Frequent travel required 
  • Responsible for hiring, development, and related personnel processes 
  • Mentoring and professional development of staff 
  • Make use of essential people skills, including the ability to develop subordinates 
  • Ability to manage and influence people in a direct and lateral support structure 
  • Ultimate decision-making latitude within their functional units and influences decisions on an organizational level 
  • Drives timelines and development through the broad influence 
  • Ultimate interaction with legal services 
  • Develop and direct short and near-term goals 
  • Responsible for developing 3–5-year business plan 
  • Responsible for Revenue (P&L) 
  • Interprets Regulations for application within their functional unit 
  • Has business acumen and considers business impacts in planning and problem solving 
  • Responsible for business development  
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required: 

  • Must possess relevant four-year degree OR relevant master’s OR relevant Ph.D., background in the life sciences, biotechnology, or gene therapy industries preferred 
  • 10+ years in a commercial manufacturing setting
  • Expert business knowledge with a comprehensive understanding of the organizational and functional areas of responsibility 
  • Advanced Leadership skills 
  • Top executive responsible for functional area.  Responsible for setting and meeting functional goals that align with organizational strategy 
  • Prior leadership experience in a commercial pharmaceuticals or biologics cGMP manufacturing environment experience is required 
  • Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and adjust as priorities change 
  • Must have the ability to communicate and motivate across the organization, to the Board of Directors and to Customers routinely with confidence, compassion and expertise. 
  • Must be highly skilled in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) including data interpretation and reporting 
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive work environment 
  • Must possess a client-focused mindset focused on the quality deliverables 
  • Must possess prior experience handling confidential information and the ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • CDMO experience, must be comfortable in having tough and crucial conversations along with being customer service oriented
