The Andelyn Biosciences’ Viral Vector Core group is seeking a motivated individual to join our growing team as a Sr. Scientist.

The Senior Scientist is responsible for supporting the Operations team by assisting with the management of viral vector Manufacturing in both Suspension and Adherent platforms.  This includes ensuring the cell culture activities needed to meet the production schedule are planned, assisting in the preparation and inventory of solutions, reagents, and materials, and scheduling the daily workloads for production and purification.  The Senior Scientist will review technical proposals, attend necessary meetings, and oversee the execution of technical proposals.  Additionally, they will be responsible for assisting in data review, data management, and authoring the Certificates of Analysis (CofA). The Senior Scientist will troubleshoot technical production issues and work with management to identify areas for process improvement.  Additionally, the Senior Scientist will work to become a subject matter expert on viral vector manufacturing.

Under the guidance and direction of the Associate Director of Viral Vector Core, essential functions of the Sr. Scientist:

  • Respond to, and take action from, alarm notifications from the applicable monitoring system(s) for laboratory temperature-controlled storage units that occur at any point during the assigned period of responsibility
  • Operate within the Quality System applicable to the manufacture of research-grade, toxicology grade, or engineering runs with grade-appropriate material in the VVC
  • Responsible for leading laboratory operations for viral vector manufacturing
  • Assist with writing and reviewing technical proposals and assure their accurate execution
  • Possibility of interacting with clients to provide technical feedback
  • Anticipate, solve, correct, and troubleshoot problems including error trending and prevention.
  • Uphold a clean and safe work environment
  • Assist Director or Supervisor to author product CofAs
  • Manages materials and inventory (SAP), Goods Issuing and Work Order routings
  • Provide training to staff
  • Review and approve changes made to SOPs, protocols, and other process documents
  • Manages the daily schedule and tracks the status of productions leading to on-time delivery
  • Identifies problems, troubleshoots, and finds suitable solutions when situations present
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all activities performed according to established SOPs
  • Work under the general supervision of senior staff and leadership

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required

  • Must possess relevant four-year degree OR relevant master’s OR relevant Ph.D., background in the life sciences, biotechnology, or gene therapy preferred
  • Five years relevant (w/4 YR deg) OR two years (w/Masters)
  • Experience in bioprocessing, biologics, or gene therapy required
  • Experience in highly regulated field preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and adjust as priorities change
  • Must be highly skilled in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) including data interpretation and reporting
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Must possess a client-focused mindset in daily tasks
  • Must possess prior experience handling confidential information and the ability to maintain confidentiality
