Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Observes and conducts training and audits relating to lab safety and life safety

·       Assist the Biosafety Program Manager in the development of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.

·       Participates in safety committee meetings

·       Proactively identifies and corrects safety hazards in the workplace

·       Assists in response to safety incidents, and helps conduct incident investigations

·       Provides support for developing proactive safety solutions to workplace hazards

·       Assists in inspections of worksites

·       Assists with the management of infectious waste and hazardous chemical waste programs

·       Performs other duties as assigned


KSAs

  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills appropriate to frequent contact with all levels of administration, faculty, staff, students, and visitors, including presenting information where a detailed explanation is required to obtain consensus and cooperation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Working knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and hazard communication. 
  •  Knowledge of the current occupational safety and industrial hygiene standards. 
  • Knowledge of the proper use of safety equipment and current trends in personal protective equipment. 
  • Problem solving with some supervision.
  •  Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  •   Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Some knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and State laws as related to health, fire, and life safety. 
  • Basic knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.
  • Two (2) years progress towards a four-year degree in occupational safety, industrial safety, safety engineering, or a related field is preferred.
