JOB TITLE: Editor and Publications Manager
DEPARTMENT: Training & Certifications
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Training and Certifications
POSITION TYPE: Full-Time
LOCATION: Remote/Telecommute
Do you want to make a big difference in a small association? Do you enjoy spearheading projects? We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking Editor and Publications Manager to join our Education, Publications, and Certifications team!
Reporting to the Vice President of Training and Certifications, the Editor and Publications Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day and strategic activities of all ARMA International publications, including the ARMA Magazine. In this position you will work with subject matter experts and volunteer committees to develop, design, and edit all publications. You will be coordinating the entire production process, from start to final publication, and conducting periodic reviews thereafter.
In pre-production, you will work with authors to ensure the substance of each article/report/paper is engaging, key messages are honed and highlighted, and both the content and design are consistent with industry trends. The successful candidate will possess the ability to constructively critique the work of experts, motivate them, and keep them on deadline. This role focuses on a mix of digital and print publications.
If you have first-rate communication and project management skills, a strong editorial background, work well in a team but also with little supervision, experience working in a professional membership or trade association, and have a good sense of humor, this could be an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact on a small association. If you also have a developed understanding of records and information management and information governance, you just may be the unicorn we’re searching for!
As Editor and Publications Manager, you will:
- Manage the coordination and administration of the entire publication process for reports, books, white papers, ARMA Magazine, and other educational resources.
- Work with subject matter experts and volunteer committees to develop content, timelines, editorial and board review, as well as publication and distribution methods.
- Use excellent writing and editing skills to help authors express their ideas clearly, concisely, and creatively.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, efficiently, and on-time.
- Produce diverse communications products to complement major work, e.g. industry templates/worksheets, blog posts, social media posts, infographics, etc.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Training and Certifications to make developmental, editorial, design, distribution, and process decisions about the association’s publications and communications.
- Contribute ideas for more efficient, effective operations—prepare reports and recommendations for the Executive Team and Board of Directors regarding publication activity.
- Source and manage relationships with external publication vendors.
- Manage requests for all copyright and permissions of ARMA International materials, publications, and other resources.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications/skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred
- Minimum five years of publications coordination/management
- Strong editorial background
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite design software (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Experience in a professional membership or trade association preferred
- Established network of external service providers preferred (copy-editors, designers, etc.)
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365, web design, association management software, and self-directed learning platforms a plus (YourMembership, Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360, etc.)
- Records and information management and information governance knowledge and experience a plus
