A senior member of staff, the Vice President of Training and Certifications oversees direction, management and provides strategic oversight for all aspects of ARMA’s training, certification, and educational activities. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for developing, overseeing implementation, and ensuring ongoing maintenance of a training arm consisting of workshops and live/virtual training programs built on established needs assessments.  This role must direct project work as well as execute that work while overseeing the department’s staff and resources.  This position is responsible for developing the strategy for delivery using internal staff and external resources for promotion and delivery, with a goal of year over year growth. Additionally, S/he will develop comprehensive plans for the growth and further adoption of the IGP certification.


A member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role is a strategic contributor towards the organization’s overall success and must be fluent in all aspects of the Association and its offerings, products, and services. S/he will work with the Executive Director, the leadership team, direct internal reports, and external contracted resources.  This position will implement strategies for addressing the professional need of its members and is expected to respond to and work effectively with members, customers, and internal stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates as a member of the executive team, supporting the development of long-term strategy and annual organizational goals. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other internal department and external resources as necessary to achieve organizational goals.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of initiatives to grow and increase awareness of education, training and certification offerings.
  • Manage and support production schedule of each education program to ensure timely completion.
  • Define logical sequence of training and instructional materials based on needs analysis.
  • Use strategic and tactical planning to design comprehensive education programs and publications for multiple levels of professionals worldwide based on curriculum gap analysis, member needs analysis, competency model, evaluation, and association trend data.
  • Directs the activities of the internal and external instructional design content development team, ensuring that the team delivers the final product on time and that those products meet departmental and organizational goals.
    Provides expertise, coaching and guidance in instructional design, content development and production processes to ensure the highest quality content, resources and materials are integrated and maintained in offerings.
    Develop online training production plans, schedules and budgets, ensuring that training products and materials, are regularly reviewed and updated to meet organizational expectations and direction.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external subject-matter experts, and manage content authoring or reviews as required, to ensure the content integrity of training products, certifications, and educational offerings.
    Directs the effective and efficient planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs and activities.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of all necessary documentation, including policy and procedure manuals, to meet accreditation, and other reporting requirements.
  • Direct creation of a needs assessment library of professional practice gaps and educational needs underlying gaps. Assure that the needs of all members and constituents are considered.
  • Develop and maintain instructional Design standards and best practices for all offerings and communicates those standards to the Education and Content Director.
  • Develops budgets, monitors spending, and develops related policies and procedures.
  • Supervises the content and education director, project coordinator, contracted resources, and leads the direction of volunteer resources.
  • Directs and establishes priorities for staff team. Supports staff development.


Additional leadership responsibilities:

  • Leads various special strategic initiatives as assigned.
  • Develops and provides various reports and statistical analysis for initiatives and strategic objectives.
  • Collaborates as part of the ARMA Executive Team on annual budgeting, strategic planning, select human resources issues, and thought leadership to achieve the organization’s strategic initiatives.
  • Identifies, evaluates, negotiates, and manages various contracts that align with the strategic direction of the association in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities for subordinate staff in accordance with ARMA’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining staff; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and managing department budgets.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the following education, experience, competencies, and language skills:


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with significant coursework in adult education, professional development, training,  instructional design, educational theory, non-profit management, or a related field.
  • CAE preferred (not required)
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in educational development, content development, credentialing, or related disciplines.
  • Experience with ANSI or Institute for Credentialing Excellence accreditation activities preferable.
  • Minimum of four years of experience budgeting, strategic planning, and managing and leading a staff.
  • Experience working in an association or non-profit is preferred.
  • Experience and education requirements may be satisfied with an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office 365 suite; experience with association management software, such as YourMembership, is helpful.
  • Proven ability to develop successful member acquisition and retention strategies.
  • Ability to use data to drive strategies.


Language Skills (includes mental, verbal, writing skills)

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers and coworkers.
  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills.  Attention to grammar and writing etiquette is important.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to Association management, Association members and other Staff Members of the Association.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions, rules, policies and procedures that may be furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ensures understanding by asking clarifying questions and restates understanding for confirmation.
