Software Operations Engineer

 
*THIS POSITION IS BASED OUT OF IRELAND, SALARY IS PAID IN EUROS*

As a Software Operations Engineer, you will work closely with the Software Developers to provide them with scripts, tools and procedures for safe, quality-vetted continuous deployment. You will be engaged in the development of new features and services from the design phase to ensure that a development plan is ready and tested by the launch date.

 

You will work closely with the Product Owner and the Software Developers to advise and participate in the design of new cloud-based software products.

 

A successful candidate will have a curious, inventive, and flexible mind; will have an eye and a memory for detail; and will have the communication and inter-personal skills to accurately and thoroughly communicate with developers and business stakeholders while maintaining friendly and professional relationships.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

If hired, you will:

 

·         Create and maintain our cloud-infrastructure and our Infrastructure-as-Code codebase.

·         Develop tools, scripts and procedures for use by Developers to facilitate the continuous deployment pipeline.

·         Participate in architectural discussions and advise on the scope and description of new features.

·         Participate in daily scrums to maintain awareness of the status of multiple, concurrent development projects.

·         Participate in twice-monthly review meetings to analyze and improve on the Software Team's performance.

·         Take a week-long shift about once per month as the "First Responder", responsible for responding to, routing, monitoring, and communicating the status of high priority requests from the Service Team and other MTI departments. This will be in addition to regular duties during that week.

·         Securely managing user credentials to multiple software systems of differing sensitivity and criticality to the enterprise.

Required Skills and Abilities

 

·         Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), esp. Terraform

·         Experience with configuration management tools, esp. Salt

·         Experience with AWS, GCP, Kubernetes and Helm

·         Knowledge of industry-standard security best practices

  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools - Jenkins, GitHub Actions
  • Docker

·         Ability to participate in on-call rotation

 

Preferred Skills and Abilities

 

The newly hired Production Operations Engineer will be more likely to succeed rapidly if they are already familiar with:

 

  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL scaling
  • Stress testing
  • Raspberry Pi hardware and Linux operating systems
