Lightforge Games is looking for a Lead 3D Character Artist!

We are looking for an artist with a proven track record in creating appealing, stylized, AAA quality 3D game characters, who also enjoys the collaborative environment of a great team. In this role, you will be critical in fine-tuning the look and style of all characters, character attire, and creatures. In addition to creating models and helping with direction for outsourced art, we will also be looking to your experience on all aspects of the pipeline, from contributing concept artwork, to feedback on environments, animations, and rigs.

By joining us at this early stage, you’ll play a huge role in guiding the direction of our project and company. We’re looking for an artist with proven experience who can grow with the company.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our Art Director to develop and define our game’s art style.

  • Create beautiful, style-defining models and textures for characters.

  • Create both high poly and final low poly game assets.

  • Work with Art team to review outsourced character art and textures, helping to ensure that all 3D assets are achieving our established quality and style standards.

  • Provide model and texture edits to internal and external team members, accompanied by organized and concisely written feedback.

  • Work with the Art Director, Lead 3D Artist, Technical Artist, and Lead Animator to develop our art pipeline.

  • Help the art department grow into a happy, lean, high functioning, and collaborative creation machine.

  • Aid in determining and implementing necessary parameters and technology to meet our game’s vision.

  • Outside of art, contribute to Lightforge Games' direction and values.

Requirements

  • AAA experience as a game artist, in particular modeling, texturing, and materials across multiple platforms, is ideal.

  • Passion for creating characters, creatures, and gear that reflect a fantasy world setting.

  • Experience leading or directing other artists.

  • Familiar with UE4 development.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with internal and external team members.

  • Strong understanding of human and animal anatomies and physiologies.

  • Fundamental understanding of color and color theory

  • Fluency of modeling and PBR workflows.

  • Expert knowledge of game development 3D programs.

  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work remotely while collaborating with a team.

Pluses

  • 2D concept art ability.

  • Knowledge of modular character creation.

  • Familiarity with procedural content creation using Houdini or similar techniques.

  • Interest in creating 3D environments or points of interest.
  • Experience working on live-service games
