Position Summary:

 

The Vice President of Accounting, Corporate Controller is a key member of the accounting and finance team. Reporting to the CFO/CBO, ACELYRIN, INC. is looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Controller who thrives in a fast-paced to lead the accounting operations and support the company’s growth. The key functions include corporate accounting, financial reporting, financial systems, internal controls, taxes, audits, payroll and compliance. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-growth company in the biotech sector.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·       Plan, direct and coordinate all operational accounting functions

·       Build an accounting team necessary to support a growing clinical-stage company with plans for growth and commercialization

·       Develop and improve internal controls, accounting policies and infrastructure to support business scale and growth

·       Responsible for the Company’s monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process and management reporting of results, operating metrics, and flux analyses

·       Ensure the financial statements are prepared in accordance with US GAAP in a timely manner, and prepare accounting technical memos as necessary

·       Review customer contracts and collaboration agreements to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment in accordance with ASC 606

·       Plan and manage annual financial statement audits (financial and government) with external auditors

·       Plan and manage regulatory reporting, including tax filings and compliance across various jurisdictions

·       Drive all accounting-related matters for the S-1 filing in anticipation of an IPO

·       Manage all SEC reporting requirements

·       Manage all SOX-realted planning and 404b-related efforts for the company

·       Manage all government grant and contract accounting activities, including budget creation and tracking, indirect cost rate negotiations and governmental audits

·       Oversee payroll processing and related tax filings

·       Partner with HR in 401k administration and compliance testing

·       Partner with FP&A team to develop variance analyses to provide business insights to management

·       Manage implementation of system necessary for growth of the department

·       Establish strong relationships cross-functionally and be the accounting expert for the company

·       Leverage systems to drive process efficiencies and internal controls

·       Lead, support and develop the accounting team

·       Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Skills Required:

 

·       CPA or CMA designation and public accounting experience 

·       15+ years of progressively responsible experience in a similar role

·      Proficient in NetSuite

·      Strong knowledge of US GAAP reporting requirements

·      Experience with government grant awards/contracts accounting and audit requirements

·      Ability to travel to our proposed South San Francisco, CA location

·      Ability to work Pacific Time Zone hours

·       Experience in life sciences and pharmaceutical development sectors

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·       Familiarity with cost accounting principles

·       Public company experience 

·       Experience with various ERP systems and financial tools

·       Excellent problem solving skills

·       Must be a hands-on, roll-up your sleeves leader

·       Ability to manage changing priorities and deadlines

·       Strong leadership skills in building and managing a team

·       Ability to work a hybrid schedule
