The Position

Job Description

 

The Director of Performance and Operational Engineering will be responsible for improving reliability, efficiency, and profitability of the wind, solar & storage sites across the United States through improvement initiatives, root cause analysis, and process and procedure development. The role will report directly to the VP of Asset Management.

 

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

 

Lead a team providing performance analysis, plant optimization, operational reliability, SCADA implementation and plant testing functions to maximize the generation profile of existing renewable generating assets and implement best practices in the development & construction of new generating assets.

·        Supervise and lead a group of performance analysts & engineers to support day-to-day operations of the solar, wind and storage generating units and maximize performance of the assets.

·        Keep abreast of the latest PVsyst and performance modeling developments, develop new methods/tools as appropriate, and train team members on any new procedures.

·        Develop maintenance strategies to optimize performance of renewable assets and identify areas of underperformance, drive improvements and corrective actions via management of third-party contractors.

·        Support the monitoring & analytics using software systems to track performance of the fleet and implement methods for regular reporting to investors.

·        Research and provide recommendations on technology improvements that are business case positive for the operating fleet. Develop & implement operational improvements that increase generation & availability of power plants.

·        Support the Compliance organization in engineering analysis that needs to be done to maintain reliability compliance of generating assets.

·        Continuously evaluate software systems, processes, procedures and drive improvement within the performance and operational engineering teams to support Arevon’s growth.

·        Coordinating with internal and external engineering and construction teams on project substantial completion testing and verifying or running capacity tests

·        Provide technical review of module, inverter, battery, transformer and tracker/racking technologies in support of equipment selection and procurement and build a team to support the reliability analysis of various components.

·        Support EPC contract negotiation (SCADA System selection, MET station requirements and layout, High Voltage Design, capacity testing requirements, etc.)

·        Build relationships with Independent Engineers and work with them to create energy models and resource assessment reviews in support of project financing, acquisition and funding of assets.

·        Develop and drive process improvement in Engineering best practices and push lessons learned upstream to Construction and Development to prevent recurrence of known issues.

·        Coordinate with the Project and Development Engineering teams to enable a positive feedback loop ensuring operational issues are considered in future designs and modelling.

 

 

Experience Requirements

 

·        Ten (10) years of engineering experience in Renewable O&M, Testing, SCADA and Performance Engineering

·        Graduate degree and/or electrical engineering experience with solar power technology is preferred.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of NERC reliability standards and regulations,

·        Ability to demonstrate a technical understanding of power plant systems & Strong Plant Controls Systems Knowledge.

·        Proven track record of working well within a team environment, taking ownership of processes and procedures.

·        Substantial experience with PVSYST and energy modeling experience of terrestrial photovoltaic systems is required.

·        Excellent interpersonal skills, highly motivated and results oriented, process oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.

·        Ability to delegate and schedule workflow for a group of analysts & engineers and train and mentor team members.

·        Proficient on MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, etc.

 

 

Education Requirements

  • At a minimum, Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with experience managing renewable projects.
