The Position
AREVON is recruiting for the position of Senior Associate, Regulatory Affairs, an outstanding opportunity for individuals seeking an exciting, high-growth work environment in one of the most important industries for the 21st century.
Job Description
The Senior Associate will be a part of the Arevon Regulatory Affairs team and will report to the Director of Regulatory Affairs. The Senior Associate will facilitate compliance with NERC, FERC, Regional Entity, and local standards, rules, and statutes applicable to Arevon’s generating assets. The Senor Associate will function as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for NERC Reliability Standards, primarily Operations and Planning Standards, and assist with CIP Reliability Standards as needed. This position will be responsible for working independently and as part of a team on complex projects involving collection and compilation of relevant data from multiple sources, conducting thorough analysis, and identifying, reporting, and managing potential compliance issues.
The Senior Associate will work with development and construction teams and external consultants to prepare future projects for NERC compliance. The Senior Associate will also play a key role in developing, maintaining, and implementing Arevon’s NERC Compliance Program across Arevon’s assets. This effort may include, but not limited to, event analyses, technical support, direct field support, process and procedure development, audit support, internal and external communications, training, and project management. This position will also take a lead role on industry committees related to NERC compliance activities.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
• Support the identification, documentation, tracking, and disposition of potential non-compliance issues related to NERC Reliability Standards
• Support/lead regulatory initiatives such as, NERC/Regional Entity self-certifications, spot-checks, gap analyses, and audits.
• Lead and/or conduct, as necessary, compliance analyses, gap analyses, event investigations, risk assessments, enforcement proceedings, internal control evaluations, etc.,
• Develop and track self-reports and mitigation plans for potential noncompliance identified internally and consult with Regional Entities to close enforcement issues appropriately.
• Coordinate and administer various regulatory filings, such as, data submittals, quarterly misoperations reporting, event reports, etc., to regulatory bodies including, but not limited to FERC, NERC, and Regional Entities.
• Collaborate with SMEs and internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain written documentation of plans, programs, procedures, and other evidence necessary to comply with applicable NERC Reliability Standards and FERC rules and statutes.
• Review studies, one-line diagrams, models, engineering drawings, analyses of protection system settings and schemes, and other technical information to determine compliance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards.
• Monitor new/revised NERC Reliability Standards and develop plans for implementation, collaborating with SMEs, O&M providers, and/or external stakeholders.
• Analyze published NERC lessons learned, enforcement actions, and other regulatory developments, determine business impact, and develop appropriate plans to implement relevant actions, including identifying SMEs, establishing timelines, and compiling and assessing compliance evidence.
• Participate in relevant NERC/FERC/RE committees, trade associations, oversight organizations, and internal groups and influence standards development and implementation.
• Identify process improvement opportunities based on event analyses, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and industry best practices.
• Oversee and/or support the administration and maintenance of compliance management, workflow, and tracking software.
• Assist in the creation and maintenance of relevant compliance training for Arevon staff to have a thorough understanding of NERC, FERC, and other regulatory requirements.
Experience Requirements
• 5-8 years of experience with NERC Operating and Planning Reliability Standards (GO/GOP experience preferred).
• Ability to learn and demonstrate technical understanding of power plant systems, design, and operation as they relate to NERC and FERC regulations and standards. • 2-3 years of experience administering and/or working with compliance/work-flow databases or software.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational and time-management skills, drive for results, attention to detail, and communication skills.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, technical field or related field or equivalent experience
