The VP of Software Development will oversee the architecture, design, development, testing, and delivery of the company’s software products for CaseBuilder and CrimeTracer divisions. This individual will partner with the Product Management, Sales, Operations and Support teams in the creation of the product roadmap, and establishing the technology vision, design, development, and delivery that meets the strategic goals of the organization, as well as the customer commitments and meet our revenue goals. This person will be responsible for ensuring that the team meets the support and availability Service Level Agreements and accelerates the delivery of product features with high quality, and established performance metrics.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Create and nurture a positive engineering culture characterized by collaborative teamwork, speed, and accountability, while ensuring that the organization is keenly focused on delivering exceptionally high-quality products.
  • Ensure that the products and solutions are engineered for optimal performance, scalability, ease-of-use, and cost effectiveness through new technology adoption.
  • Oversee the architectural and development efforts required to ensure application security, integration, performance, reliability, and quality.
  • Ensure that the team is adhering to the policies, procedures, best practices, and meets and exceed the quality, velocity, and performance goals of the organization.
  • Deploy best practices for the full life cycle, Agile software development and delivery process.
  • Manage and optimize the software technology organization budget.
  • Create, promote and nurture innovation and cross team collaboration toward engineering excellence.
  • Participate in hiring, development, mentoring, and leading the team.
  • Ensure cross training and documentation to minimize the organizational and business continuity risks.
  • Ensure the appropriate staffing levels, technical skills, leadership, and organizational structure required to efficiently and effectively deliver on product commitments.

Minimum Qualifications

The VP of Software Development must have strong leadership skills to positively influence the performance, culture, and outcomes of the team This individual must be knowledgeable of and experienced with software architecture, full-stack engineering and full lifecycle development principles and practices. This person should be willing and able to effectively prioritize tasks and issues for the team and manage the resources optimally. The VP of Software Development must be able to conduct effective external communications with the customer during the course of project delivery and development, as well as managing crisis and escalations.

  • 10+ years of software engineering management/leadership experience
  • Proven experience in database administration and optimization.
  • Proven experience in software architecture, software programming, and QA.
  • Experience with AWS and Azure.
  • A fundamental understanding of software security best-practices.
  • Knowledge of data management tools and processes, ideally experience with Law Enforcement Records Management Systems (RMS).
  • Direct experience with large scale application integration.
  • Knowledge of and experience with performance engineering principles.
  • Experience in the public safety desired
  • Experience with software internationalization (a plus).
  • Experience managing remote and distributed teams.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities, conflict resolution, and coaching skils.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong initiative and judgement.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field is strongly preferred.  An advanced degree is a plus.
