SST Project Managers are responsible for planning and executing ShotSpotter Software deployment projects for customers from contract to successful delivery, handoff to customer service and support, and project close-out. Project Managers will have frequent contact with high-ranking customer officials, and possiblepublic officials for their support for the project, drive forward progress, and ensure alignment on project expectations and goals. Resources from both internal and external resource pools, including Engineering, Customer Success/Training, and Customer Support, will report into the Project Manager on a per project basis to ensure scope, deliverables, resources, schedule, and risk are effectively planned and managed. Success in this position will require thorough understanding of the entire operation from bringing new customers online, ShotSpotter software functionality, strong project management fundamentals, and excellent communication and negotiation skills. S/he will also contribute to development and improvement of strategies, tools, and practices that will lead to stronger project performance over time.

 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Engineering, Operations and Customer Success to review contracts, determine deliverables, and identify resource requirements and project risks.

  • S/he will also contribute to development and improvement of strategies, tools, and practices that will lead to stronger project performance over time.

 

  • Create and maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets. Proactively manage risk and change to keep projects on track. Manage projects to budgeted guidelines and timeframes.
  •  Design ShotSpotter sensor arrays and conduct surveys in coverage area to identify and select suitable locations for sensor and communications layer devices.
  • Work with customer liaisons, community leaders, public officials, commercial businesses and other resources as needed to obtain site permissions as efficiently as possible.
  • Create project bill of materials and installation schedule, working closely with Field Service & Logistics Manager to ensure cost effective delivery of hardware and installation resources. Supervise network installation/conversion, test, and activation.
  • Assess customer network and systems infrastructure to understand security requirements, deployment challenges, and coordinate/assist with remote software installations.
  • Work with Engineering and Network Operations to determine optimal network configuration and provision hosted and remote services as needed.
  • Create and deliver project documentation, including regular project updates and status reports, sensor network layouts, as-built documentation, and customer acceptance documents.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a self-starter – Able to explore the varied systems and networks we work with on a daily basis and quickly become an expert.
  • Comfortable boot-strapping and adapting tools/processes as needed to get the job done.
  • 5+ years project management experience in a technical domain, for example IT, network implementation/deployment, telecommunications outside plant/construction, etc.
  • Strong project management fundamentals, including scheduling (PERT, GANTT), risk management, change management, budgeting and cost control.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to deal with ambiguity, providing clarity where confusion or chaos is found.
  • Must be able to interact well with other departments, customers, and C-level executives, especially under stress.
  • Win-win negotiation skills.
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience with computer networking, radio and cellular communications, IP communication, firewalls, routers/switches, VPN, Windows systems, web applications, and SaaS highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Earth required.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce), online collaboration tools (e.g. Confluence, Sharepoint), and bug tracking systems a plus.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed with excellent time management skills and ability to handle and adapt to changing priorities and special projects.
  • Passionate about and committed to customer service.

  • Grace under pressure.
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable, applicable industry experience.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the U.S. (up to 50% of the time) required; some international travel may be possible.
  • Primary work location will be employee’s home office.
