The Field Installation Technician will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of ShotSpotter gunshot detection systems, PlateRanger license plate reader cameras, SafePointe discrete weapons detectors, and associated equipment. The role demands strict adherence to health, safety, and quality standards while working in environments that present physical risks and hazardous conditions. This position is based in New York City, requiring familiarity with urban settings and the unique challenges they present.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Execute the installation of ShotSpotter, PlateRanger, and SafePointe field equipment.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal safety regulations (including OSHA and local codes) and electrical code while executing work tasks efficiently and productively.
- Demonstrate self-sufficiency and proactivity, consistently striving to complete tasks effectively on the first attempt.
- Manage time effectively to meet installation schedules and deadlines.
- Coordinate installations with property owners, using various communication methods such as calls, emails, and texts to schedule appointments.
- Conduct site surveys to assess optimal equipment placement for maximum signal reception and operational safety.
- Interpret technical documents, including blueprints, diagrams, and manufacturer specifications, to ensure accurate equipment installation.
- Operate necessary machinery and equipment, such as lifts and bucket trucks, to facilitate installations.
- Acquire new locations and permissions for installations when access or physical limitations prevent the use of original locations.
- Skilled in terminating RJ45 connectors and working with Ethernet cables.
- Possess basic knowledge of networking principles, including network configuration and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of switch configurations and basic troubleshooting.
- Proficient in using computers, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
- Ability to learn and utilize industry-specific applications and tools to improve efficiency and accuracy in reporting and communication.
- Update and close work orders for SoundThinking installation and maintenance, including documenting work completed and equipment verification checkout.
- Track and maintain company equipment, materials, and tools.
- Perform various field activities as directed by management.
- Enthusiasm to learn and apply AI tools to job-related responsibilities.
- Travel as required for job assignments.
- Driving throughout the day to 8-10 customer locations
Minimum Qualifications
- Over 10 years of experience as a field technician.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Low voltage certification
- Physical capability to climb 500 vertical feet per day in all weather conditions, throughout the year.
- Ability to stand for extended periods on a ladder and lift/carry up to 85 lbs.
- Licensed certified electrician with expertise in high to low voltage wiring, color coding, weatherproofing, grounding, and device-mounting.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to work Monday-Friday with potential to work weekends.
