Sr. Director of Technical Product Management, CaseBuilder
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Senior Director of Technical Product Management to lead our CaseBuilder product team. CaseBuilder is an innovative, growing business dedicated to empowering local and state investigators with cutting-edge case management solutions that help them assign, organize, and solve cases more effectively. Despite being a relatively young venture within the company, CaseBuilder’s foundation comes from the system developed for and used by NYPD and has earned the trust of many law enforcement organizations across the country.
In this pivotal role, the TPM will take ownership for, and define the Operational, Technical, Security, and Compliance requirements for the product, and ensure that all new developments are in alignment with the desired strategic, technical and design (technical and UX/UI) of the product and the platform. You will act as the critical link between business strategy and technology, collaborating with customers, stakeholders, and development teams to define, document, and prioritize product requirements, drive the vision for the business and deliver product roadmaps.
The ideal candidate brings a robust technical background, exceptional leadership and communication skills, and a proven ability to excel in Agile development environments. This position has high visibility with executive leadership and reports to the SVP, Products & Corporate Development.
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement and Requirement Gathering:
- Learn the market and collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to understand their needs, challenges, and objectives
- Conduct interviews, workshops, and surveys to gather and analyze customer requirements.
- Translate feedback into actionable product features and enhancements.
- User Story Creation and Grooming:
- Write detailed, well-structured user stories that include comprehensive acceptance criteria
- Collaborate with development teams to refine and groom user stories, ensuring clarity and feasibility
- Prioritize and manage the product backlog, ensuring alignment with sprint goals and overall product strategy
- Collaboration with Development Teams:
- Serve as the primary liaison between stakeholders and the development team
- Participate in Agile activities such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
- Provide ongoing support to developers, answering questions and clarifying requirements as needed
- Product Vision, Roadmap and Leadership:
- Understand client needs by segment and lead creation of the long-term plan and mid-term plans for the product via a vision and roadmap that aligns with business objectives and takes into consideration customer and prospect feedback, and competitive and technology trends.
- Present the roadmap and state of the business to the Executive Leadership Team and Product Council
- Represent SoundThinking as a domain and product expert at prospect meetings, customer visits, industry events, and work with Marketing on messaging and other outbound activities
- Work closely with peers in product management to develop high-value integrations where data slows seamlessly between products and over time user experience and shared technologies are implemented across solutions
- Understand product ecosystem and propose potential partnerships with other providers to deepen overall solution value
- Monitor and report on the progress of development efforts, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products
- Documentation and Communication:
- Develop clear and concise customer-facing documentation, including user guides, FAQs, and release notes.
- Create and maintain technical product requirements, ensuring alignment with customer needs and company goals.
- Business and Analytical skills
- Research and report on market trends and competitive actions, develop strategies to keep strong differentiation and focus on highest value segments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in a Product Manager or Product Owner role, preferably in a technical domain and cloud-based software.
- Experience working in the law enforcement software industry preferably with RMS, case management systems, and investigators
- Hands-on experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of software development processes and technologies.
- Ability to write technical documentation, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Familiarity with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or similar project management platforms.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of UX/UI principles and customer-centered design practices.
- MBA and/or business and financial skills
- Experience with APIs, system integrations, or cloud-based technologies.
- Certification as a Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent.
- Public speaking experience at industry events
- Mix of startup and corporate experience preferred
Hybrid Workplace:
SoundThinking follows a hybrid schedule for employees who live equal to or less than 50 miles from one of our office locations, which include Fremont, CA, Tucson, AZ, Washington, D.C., or Iselin, NJ. Employees are expected to work onsite 3 days per week – the specific days are dependent on the office location.
