The Field Services Engineer supports the Information Technology (IT) Field Services and Operational Support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team to primarily provide direct support and services to the Activity's globally dispersed Wide Area Network (WAN) remote sites. The Field Services Engineer supports all facets of the Activity's IT Field Services support offering to include the conducting of site surveys for new and upcoming site establishments and installations; installation and stand-up of new WAN sites; in-field servicing and support of existing IT systems at WAN sites; couriering and delivering of equipment to sites; and installation.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  •          Professionally communicating and interfacing with a variety of local element representatives at remote sites - ranging from other Contractors, Government Civilian, and Military - to coordinate site visits, receive feedback and complaints, and relay information, as necessary.
  •          Performing detailed and technically in-depth site survey functions at remote site locations as required to assess I analyze site preparedness, develop installation plans, minor installation parts lists and associated cost estimates.
  •          Supporting Communications Security (COMSEC) Local Elements with COMSEC hardware/software assets and key operations; loading keys into encryption devices; installing, configuration, and troubleshooting encryption devices; replacing faulty encryption devices; and interacting with the Government COMSEC points of contact (POCs) as necessary.
  •          Coordinating with remote site users, site/base support and or facilities personnel, network manager(s) and controllers, long haul and local carriers for installation, cutover, activation, deactivation, troubleshooting, planning, and execution of networking circuits.
  •          Receiving, reviewing, understanding, processing, and executing against system and networking guidance, direction, diagrams and/or drawings to implement secure Government information systems and solutions.
  •          Review and analysis of remote site deployed systems and equipment configurations for configuration drift, or reconfiguration opportunities for efficient, optimization, and/or security improvements.
  •          Performing approved in-place patching, vulnerability remediation, and upgrades of deployed production systems and networking equipment.
  •          Actively supporting as on-site IT representation during system related incidents and directly interfacing with other internal O&M teams to troubleshoot to resolution.
  •          Analyzing local system faults and troubleshooting and running diagnostic tests on equipment to detect and resolve problems.
  •          Verifying, and updating as necessary, in-house system and network documentation for remote site configurations during field services engagements, and ensuring those updates and feedback are delivered to the respective O&M teams for awareness and action.
  •          Supporting in the field system equipment and asset inspection and inventories and generating the associated documentation to provide back to the respective O&M teams.
  •          Capable and willing to perform manual work in direct support of server rack and system and network hardware installation to include the ability to lift 50 pounds.
  •       Routine incumbent CONUS and/or OCONUS travel requirements are approximately 65% annually to support regular field services and operational efforts in direct support of the Activity. Actual frequency, schedule, and operations tempo is subject to change - increase or decrease - driven. by Activity business and mission requirements and demand.

 

Qualifications

 

  •          Shall have 5 or more years of experience installing, configuring, and hardening network equipment (routers, switches, modems, encryptors, etc.) and related cabling infrastructure to include fiber and copper installation and support experience (i.e., termination, testing and troubleshooting, installation).
  •          Shall have 5 or more years of experience in developing, updating, and revising, information system level documentation to support configuration management, as well as planned or as-is physical and logical configurations and drawings.
  •          Shall have 5 or more years of experience in leading IT networking incid.ent troubleshooting efforts of complex routing and switching issues to include problem identification, workaround identification and development, resolution development, and root cause analysis.
  •          Shall have 3 or more years of experience working with Type I NSA encryption inline network encryption (INE) devices (e.g., TACLANEs and Blue Ridge Network Border Guards and Remote Links) and communication circuits, protocols, and configurations to include key management.
  •          Shall have 3 or more years of experience operating and maintaining networking solutions in secure processing environments which must adhere to U.S. Government Information Assurance and Cybersecurity standards such as the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Requirements Guides (SRGs) and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  •          Shall have a major vendor's associate level networking certification such as the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching.
  •          Shall have experience in the fabrication of network cabling (i.e., copper ethernet and fiber) and power cabling (i.e., DC power cables) fabrication for equipment installations, modifications, and upgrades.
  •          Shall meet the minimum credential requirements for a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) position

 

Desired Qualifications

 

  •          Strongly desired to have a major vendor's professional level networking certification such as the Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) Enteterprise. 
  •          Demonstrated expedence working with satellite communication transports for WAN connections (i.e., SATCOM).
  •          Demonstrated hands-on experience with KG-175 TACLANEs, Blue Ridge Networks RemoteLinks, and Cisco routing and switching equipment.
  •          Demonstrated hands-on experience deploying, configuring, testing, and troubleshooting Cisco Unified Communications and Collaboration (i.e., Voice and Video) devices such as Voice over IP (VoIP) phones and video tele-conferencing (VTC) endpoints.
  •          Familiarity with end-user computing device installation, setup, and basic configuration to include thick and thin client desktops and laptops.
  •          Familiarity with common IT peripheral installation, setnp, and basic configuration to include printers and multi-function office machines (MFOMs).
  •          Prior experience as an Electronics Technician as active-duty Military or a commercial equivalent.

 

Education: Bachelor Degree from accredited University

 

Clearance Requirement: Top Secret/SCI with counterintelligence (CI) polygraph (in-scope within the past 7 years)
