PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Job Summary:

As a Product Development Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in owning the entire product lifecycle, from ideation and concept development to launch and beyond across all business units. You’ll steer innovative ideas from conception to rollout ensuring seamless collaboration between design, engineering, marketing, and sales.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and guidance over the Company-wide product development process across all business units.
  • Leads overall product strategy, research and development requirements, development, and manufacturing coordination for new and emerging products.
  • Manages technical product development, estimates potential profits, and release to production.
  • Manages day-to-day progress of the product and stage gate process of the product lifecycle.
  • Provides technical expertise and training to other departments supporting product development.
  • Leverages comprehensive market research, Customer insights, and industry trends to develop data-driven product definitions in collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure responsiveness to Customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains a prioritized list of Customer and market requirements for products.
  • Develops comprehensive marketing, sales, engineering, and financial plans for product lines, while providing financial and technical justification for product selection and definition.
  • Prepares product development objectives and schedules for all phases of product development and introduction to market.
  • Produces competitive analysis materials comparing products with key competitors.
  • Identifies partnering opportunities for complementary third-party products to broaden the Company's product line.
  • Maintains communications and contacts to collect and analyze technical, financial, schedule, and sales information for product lines.
  • Identifies market potential, establishes pricing and marketing strategies, estimates potential sales, introduces market, distribution/channel issues, and manages mature product through phase-out.
  • Works with marketing and sales teams to drive promotional activities, publicizing the product through the press, sales team, and alternate distribution channels, and participates in key sales meetings.
  • Plans, organizes, and manages assigned programs to ensure the accomplishment of financial/budgetary goals and optimum allocation of resources.
  • Provides continuing product surveillance and management of established products to meet financial objectives.
  • Maintains knowledge of laws/regulations relevant to the position.
  • Participates in professional development and networking conferences and events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Excellent listening skills with the ability to identify and isolate Customer concerns or objections.
  • Highly organized with a proven ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Excels at problem-solving through strong analytical thinking.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and specialized software.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, or related field.
  • At least three years of related experience in product marketing and/or product management and sales is required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% of time spent traveling.
