POSITION TITLE: Sales Associate  

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager  

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt  

Compensation: $15.00-$17.00 

Location: San Diego, CA  

Who we are: Kitchens for Good (KFG) believes that kitchens are economic engines for good in their communities. Kitchens for Good is a 501(c)(3), social enterprise that breaks the cycles of food waste, hunger, and poverty through innovate solutions in workforce training, healthy food production, and profitable food enterprises.  These enterprises include a robust catering and events operations, contract meal services, and activities conducted in enterprise kitchens.  

SHOP KITCHENS FOR GOOD are out to change the way people shop for everything kitchen. SHOP KITCHENS FOR GOOD is a social enterprise of KFG to generate revenue and cultivate community within San Diego and beyond. This retail experience provides a space to purchase “pre-loved” kitchenware items, support locally sourced enterprise products, and products created by our very own KFG alumni.  


Position Summary:  

The Sales Associate for SHOP KITCHENS FOR GOOD is responsible for maintaining excellent customer service while executing the sales of the items within the store. The sales should be done effectively, accurately, and quickly. The Sales Associate will work with other members of the team, including volunteers and management, to create a great shopping experience; maintaining the presentation & displays, operational tasks are completed, product is stocked and merchandised, and the customer’s check-out process is seamless.  


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  

  • Greets all customers in a friendly and welcoming manner.  

  • Accepts money in the form of cash, checks, and credit or debit cards for items purchased 

  • Assists customers with questions or price discrepancies. 

  • Ensures accurate transactions by balancing cash register at the beginning and end of shift, and sales at the end of shift. 

  • Processes returns and exchanges according to store policy.  

  • Identifies prices of products and services and tabulates bills with available equipment.   

  • Assists customers in locating various products, resolving complaints, or providing information. 

  • Bag, box, and wrap purchased items. 

  • Assists, when needed, in receiving donations/product and replenishing the floor in a timely fashion 

  • Proactively communicates organizations mission by informing each customer that their purchase helps “transform lives and nourish communities.”  

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience  

  • High school diploma or equivalent.  

  • 6 months of cash handling and/or customer service-related experience preferred 

  • Knowledge of consumer electronics (mobile devices and computers such as Apple, Samsung, or Google products.) 

  • Entry level experience and knowledge in Microsoft office 365 programs (Excel, Word, Power Point, One Drive, and Share Point)    


Additional Qualifications:  

  • Ability to operate available equipment, such as cash registers, calculators, or scanners 

  • Basic mathematical skills, as needed to make change and give refunds.  


Work Environment 

This job operates in a retail store environment. This role routinely uses equipment such as cash registers, computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   

The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.   

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

This is a non-exempt part-time position at 25 hours per week. SHOP KITCHENS FOR GOOD, is open 7 days a week from 9:00am-8:00pm. Morning or evening shifts available. However, expected hours/shift will vary, and employee must be available to work weekends.  


Employee will be expected to travel to multiple Kitchens for Good sites and additional travel is primarily local.
