Special Education / Academic Instructor

Location: Albuquerque Job Corps Center – Albuquerque, NM

Reports to: Academic Supervisor / Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

As a Special Education / Academic Instructor, you will provide classroom instruction in a traditional academic setting while mentoring students and reinforcing Job Corps’ Career Success Standards, including communication, professionalism, personal responsibility, and career planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging classroom instruction in assigned subject areas.

  • Create a positive, structured learning environment that promotes student success.

  • Build strong rapport with students and support their academic progress.

  • Maintain student records, attendance, and required Job Corps documentation.

  • Prepare lesson plans and utilize curriculum resources effectively.

  • Ensure classroom organization, safety, and accountability for equipment.

  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and program compliance activities.

  • Model professional behavior and Career Success Standards for students.


Minimum Qualifications

  • State teaching certification in New Mexico preferred (may be waived if candidate pursues certification).

  • Background check and passing drug screen
  • Knowledge of the assigned subject area.

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.

  • Ability to motivate and mentor young adults.

  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.

  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
