Goddard is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years of experience in medical device, product development, mechanical design, and engineering to join our team in San Diego, CA.

 

In this role, we will ask you to:

  • Lead engineering teams, advise clients, and assist in planning, design, and execution of all projects from initiation to completion, ensuring on-time submission of deliverables.
  • Be a positive and success-oriented individual who is familiar with the latest development/production methodologies and a strong understanding of medical device development processes.
  • Manage and facilitate client interactions with clear communication as it relates to deliverables, design reviews and deadlines.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to create mechanical concepts for overall packaging strategies, mechanisms, and parts; all while balancing function, appearance, form, and budgetary requirements.
  • Perform concept development, prototyping, testing, and analysis in collaboration with Industrial designers and human factors engineers as well as Design and develop precision mechanical products utilizing injection molding plastics, machining, casting, laser cutting and welding, and 3D printing.
  • Develop 3D CAD models of parts and assemblies utilizing SolidWorks or equivalent software and Optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly to facilitate the designs transfer to manufacturing.
  • Lead and document Design History File development activities including but not limited to, Design and Development planning, system requirements, RISK management, hazard analysis, xFMEA, design inputs and outputs, test plans, protocols and reports.
  • Plan and execute formal verification testing, including test method development, test method validation, data analysis, and design of experiments.
  • Remain apprised of the progress of certain projects, paying particular attention to any developing problems, and work with team members to resolve conflicts.
  • Travel as required to client sites (Rarely more than a one-hour commute from company location).

 

You have:

  • A Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Experience working in new product development, mechanical design, and engineering design processes from concept generation through manufactured systems/parts to meet customer needs.
  • Functional knowledge of FDA design controls 21CFR 820 and recognized standards such as ISO 13485 and 14971.
  • Working knowledge of common sterilization, biocompatibility, sterile packaging, shelf-life, and simulated distribution validation testing.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work at a high level of performance both independently and collaboratively.
  • Embrace working in a fast-paced environment, be a self-starter, results orientated team player with a demonstrated ability to manage projects, deadlines, and shifting priorities.
