As the Director of Electrical Engineering, you will successfully lead, with other Directors of Goddard, in all project functions regarding software engineering at Goddard and provide positive outcomes for our clients. You will work with Directors and Executive levels of Goddard to establish short and long-term goals, as well as strategies for project teams and your own direct reports.

As an Engineering Manager, you will:
- Have a strong knowledge of the implementation of all relevant & usability related standards and guidance documents (such as ISO 13485, 62304, etc.)
- Set a standard, best practices approach to Firmware and Software development for you and your team to work to. This should result in a consistent high level approach to different engineering challenges, a consistent output format for internal and external documents, and a standard folder structure/organization approach. You will also be responsible for getting the teams buy in to this approach and driving the team to use it.
- Generate QMS documentation as necessary to account for missing gaps in Goddard’s system, and yourself update or coordinate the updating of these documents over time to improve the process. Over time, you may be able to delegate this work to other engineers you deem able to do this work at the necessary level.
- Responsible for the vetting and selection of new employees who will be working as a possible direct report.
- Responsible for the vetting of consultants and contractors when necessary.
- Reinforce to your team the importance of being a great engineering resource and a good per- son. This is a winning combination to assure successful projects and continued business.
- Develop and maintain a network of industry professionals in the engineering and management field that you can call on from time to time to assist in decision making and advice.
- Be responsible for annual performance reviews for employees working as direct reports.
- Work with team members to estimate resource requirements, monitor progress, and balance and reallocate resources as needed.
- Work with team members and other managers to resolve conflicts among resources and be- tween client and engineering teams.
- Remain apprised of the progress of certain projects, paying attention to any developing problems, and participate in minor and major problem resolutions.
- General forecasting and employee utilization on a weekly basis.
- Mentor other Goddard team members as needed, professionally and personally.
- Monitor, approve, or disapprove of PTO request in accordance with the company policy.
- Strive for the right balance between strategic planning and tactical execution.
- Identify and encourage team member training.
- Advise, research, and recommend processes or software applications that will benefit the company and its team members by way of efficiency.
- Be aware of team issues: personnel, projects, computer, phone, etc. Have a way to prioritize and plan to address each to a resolution.
- Billable work is expected due to the nature of our business. We will plan the best we can to help team members out when loading is too much.
As a Project Manager, you will:
- Communicate to other Project Mangers, Directors of Program Management, or the executive team of any significant deviations of ongoing efforts.
- Create budgets, Gantts, and task tracking methods. Understand the need to measure effort remaining vs time and money remaining.
- Perform or delegate tasks to work towards a company or project goal.
- Co-ordinate and motivate a team.
- Communicate clearly and concisely with your team and client throughout a project or pro- grams to set expectations on project deliverables and high-risk areas. Manage and facilitate client interactions with strong, clear communication as it relates to deliverables, design re- views, deadlines, etc. Create and collect weekly project status updates as required.
- Negotiate when necessary for the best interest of the company.
- Deliver exceptional products and services, on- time and on-budget.
As a part of the Project Advisory Council (PAC), you will:
- Whether it is a Fixed based project, Strict T&M, or Scoped T&M., you’ll need to believe the importance of getting quotes out in a timely fashion. Having no quotes going out means no work coming in.
- Business Development (BD) will contact you or another Dir of Program Management when a request for a quote or support service is asked of them.
- Assess the client’s nature and scope and assemble a PAC (if needed) to accomplish. The majority of the time, you will be involved in all PACs.
- If you are booked with other responsibilities, other Goddard team members can be pulled into PAC duties depending on their respective availabilities, but you will be expected to approve of the outputs prior to delivery
- You will work with BD to produce timely well thought-out Quote Packages which will consist of: Collected client documentation and information; Goddard-derived Requirements Documentation; Design Brief Assist in quote writing by describing effort required for necessary task to deliver on client requirements; Design Budget; Proposed Project Schedule
- Set a standard methodology for quoting. The Quote Package needs to be a consistent, repeated effort. When reading through the package, it should have a typical breakdown and information. This will require discipline and follow through to have it be a habit in generating this package.
- BD will work with the quote package to develop a Goddard quote and have it back to you for review before sending it to a prospective client.
- Work with BD and Clients to answer questions and clarify confusion areas where possible.
- Regularly attend industry networking events and trade shows.
- Go over customer satisfaction survey.
- Assist with marketing efforts when needed.
As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will:
- Wireless technology - Familiarity with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Wi-Fi, LoRa and other low power wireless standards. Familiarity with cellular technologies, particularly 4G technologies targeting IoT
- Microcontrollers - Experience in designing microcontroller and microprocessor-based systems including ARM Cortex M series microcontrollers. C-programming expertise desired.
- Low power - Ability to design a system to minimize power consumption for portable battery-operated devices.
- Battery - Charging and fuel gauging of Lithium chemistry batteries for portable applications.
- Cloud - Familiarity with connecting devices to the cloud and issues related to security such as authentication and encryption. Familiarity with protocols such as MQTT is helpful as is knowledge of JavaScript and JSON.
- Sensors - Familiarity with various sensor types including MEMS sensors and ability to design them into a system.
- GPS - Familiarity with GPS technology and incorporating GPS capability into a product.
- Motors - Ability to design in circuits to drive motors including brushed, brushless and stepper.
- Compliance/Certification/Agency Approvals - Experience with product compliance requirements to include at least FCC Part 15 Subpart B.
- Expertise out-sourcing for prototype, pre-fabrication/ low volume, high-volume/ production runs.
- Experience with various cost reduction techniques.
- Have the ability to understand and document a theory (sequence) of operations.
- Familiar with automation systems using PLC and related software
- Have the ability to create quick prototypes when necessary utilizing Arduino, Raspberry pi or best method given the situation.
Regarding Computer & Software Use, you are expected to:
- Create entire databases describing complete product development and design. These databases will be suitable for direct transfer to prototyping and/or manufacturing and will include all consideration for various build configurations and unit testing. This work will often be performed as part of a team, which includes electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and industrial designers.
- Either create or oversee the creation of product documentation for the manufacturing and assembly process in accordance with Goddard Technologies practices.
- Use appropriate software as the primary design platforms.
- Advise, research, and recommend hardware & software applications that will benefit the company and its team members by way of efficiency.
- Continue to grow your capabilities with all computer programs.
