Job Summary

As an integrated co-teaching teacher, you will be in charge of supporting a cohort of Math and Science teachers, modifying the curriculum that has been established for each subject to best suit the individual learners in the class. You will work in coordination with the other members of the Special Education department to support the overall academic growth of our IEP and struggling students.  You will also participate in grade-level meetings and contribute in writing and in person for the IEP students on your caseload. 

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement curricula and activities to meet Common Core aligned grade level standards for your Math and Sciences;

  • Modify and provide testing accommodations for formative assessments that measure progress towards academic standards;

  • Furnish unit and lesson plans for yours on time to your Instructional leader;

  • Collect and regularly use formative, summative, and interim assessment data to adjust instruction, group students, and draft teacher input reports for IEP meetings;

  • Serve as lead case manager for a set number of students with special needs, taking the lead on gathering data in preparation for their IEP meeting, working with the CSE before, during and after the meeting to ensure that each IEP reflects the needs of the student;

  • Assess and document attendance and grades in Alma, the student database in a timely manner as per established deadlines;

  • Participate in professional learning communities;

  • Coplan, manage, and maintain a positive culture and climate in "Home" (homeroom), leveraging relationships to promote positive academic experiences and mindful, effective communication;

  • With support, deliver a socioemotional curriculum to a group of ‘advisees’;

  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development to integrate the arts and interdisciplinary learning across grade level.  Collaborate with colleagues to infuse artistic practice and the creative process into the planning and executing of each lesson;

  • Integrate visual and performing arts into lessons and units of study;

  • Assist students in creation of Digital Portfolios;

  • Chaperone field trips;

  • Meet weekly with the Head of the Special Education Department to improve pedagogical practice;

  • Meet weekly with your grade team to manage grade-level needs;

  • Fulfill varied school needs, including elevator, hall, and lunch duties;

  • Provide written and in-person input as requested by the Special Education Team;

 

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree preferred);

  • Valid NY State Teaching License;

  • 2-3 years or more teaching experience; Middle School preferred;

  • Strong pedagogical and content knowledge in Math;

  • Background experience in implementation of Math Common Core State Standards;

  • Desire to grow as a professional educator;

  • Exceptional ability to participate in community learning;

  • Commitment to the values and mission of NYC Charter School of the Arts.
