Role Overview
As a Software Engineering Manager I/II - Application at Measures for Justice, you will support a team of engineers working across critical initiatives. In collaboration with your team, you will craft development processes, initiative roadmaps, design proposals and technical implementations. Your leadership will ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable software, including for our flagship product, Commons
As a manager in application engineering, you will collaborate heavily with our product management and design teams. You will help build web applications that engage communities around criminal justice data.
Our application tech stack includes HTML5/CSS, TypeScript, React, Next.js, D3, GraphQL, Kotlin, Postgres, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
Key Responsibilities

Provide personnel management and coaching to engineers of varying skill levels

Collaborate with senior engineers to craft initiative design proposals and technical implementations

Lead across initiatives by monitoring initiative health, assisting with or escalating blockers, and advising on staffing

Own systems shared across initiatives by curating roadmaps, prioritizing backlogs, and overseeing the release of new code

Foster a growth culture by encouraging challenging work, peer feedback, development, and recognition

Cultivate strong cross-functional collaboration and communication between engineering and other teams (e.g. IT, QA, product strategy, research)

Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by modeling inclusive behaviors and proactively managing bias
Your Experience
-
Proven expertise managing or coaching software engineers with varying skill levels

Deep knowledge of software development methodologies and best practices

Proficient in both frontend and backend development and expertise in most of the following technologies: HTML5/CSS, React, TypeScript, Next.js, Kotlin, Postgres, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS

Experience guiding and shaping software initiatives undertaken by fellow engineers

Proven track record of actively seeking and implementing improvements to enhance team performance and efficiency

Deep experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to successfully and efficiently deliver a product
