SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant is a salaried position responsible for serving as a team leader in the Accounting Department and ensuring accurate and timely financial records for the organization.  

RESPONSABILITIES: 

  • Analyzes accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards defined within the department.  

  • Maintains and balances parent/subsidiary accounts accurately by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling invoices and resolving discrepancies.  

  • Develops systems for the maintenance of financial records, making use of current technologies.  

  • Creates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) files for accounting and bookkeeping personnel.  

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.  

  • Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules in synch with leadership.  

  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers.  

  • Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.  

  • Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits in accordance with leadership review.  

  • Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.  

  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.  

  • Makes recommendations to leadership regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.  

  • Use analysis to recommend improvements in the organization's accounting operation.  

  • Collects appropriate data and prepares federal, state, and local reports and tax returns.  

  • Disputing claims, as needed, for resolutions with 3rd party clients  

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree 

  • 5-10 years of accounting work experience  

  • CPA certification or in pursuit of CPA is a plus 

SKILLS:   

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel)    

  • Expert experience with accounting software, business uses QuickBooks and NorthScope  

  • Well organized   

  • Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks   

  • Attention to details for accuracy   

  • Data entry and word processing skills   

  • Knowledge of financial, tax, and GAAP accounting principles

 Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000
