Assistant Manager, Institutional Giving

The Assistant Manager, Institutional Giving is an essential member of the Development Team that will be responsible for supporting all fundraising from institutional funders, including foundations, corporations, and government grants. The Assistant Manager is also responsible for managing the institutional fundraising calendar and the Museum’s donor crediting program. The Assistant Manager also supports the department by drafting proposals and reports, working with the Sr. Manager of Corporate Relations and the Director of Institutional Giving in compiling materials, data, and information for complex proposals, and more. In addition to these fundraising duties, the Assistant Manager will complete prospect research to identify new donors, support donor engagement and cultivation efforts, and work with development staff across Special Events and Individual Giving to identify new areas for funding and collaboration. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the Director, Institutional Giving.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage all aspects of the Institutional Fundraising Calendar, including tracking deadlines, assigning tasks, and ensuring milestones are completed ahead of proposal and report submission.
  • Manage the Museum’s Donor Crediting process, working in tandem with departments across the Museum to ensure successful crediting and delivery of related contractual requirements (e.g. logo placement, exhibition listings, website donor lists, etc.)
  • Prepare materials and reports for institutional funders, including proposals, emails, presentations, reports, etc., working in collaboration with development staff and leadership when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments, including Exhibitions, Education, Marketing, and Finance, to gather information and materials about future programming, institutional goals, and budget development.
  • Organize and attend funder visits, exhibition tours, and special programs, as well as offsite events when appropriate.
  • Research and identify prospective corporate, foundation, and government funding opportunities for general operating and project-specific support.
  • Maintain donor records, including giving histories, interactions, and connections, and prospect information in the Museum’s donor management system.
  • Acquire and maintain detailed knowledge and understanding of the organization, its mission, values, strategic goals, and programs to develop persuasive donor materials.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, proactive problem-solving, and effective communication in all internal and external interactions, fostering collaboration and professionalism across teams and with funders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

A successful candidate will have:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two or more years of experience in fundraising, with a background in institutional fundraising or development preferred.
  • Excellent project management skills, including organization and balancing priorities individually and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in and/or understanding of Blackbaud Altru preferred.
  • Passion for New York City and appreciation for MCNY’s multi-faceted approach to exploring the city through history, popular culture, art, and civic engagement. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a complex, mission-driven organization.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt strategies in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

 

Currently, MCNY offers a hybrid work schedule with three days a week onsite (Wednesdays and Thursdays are mandatory) and two days a week of flexible work when possible. In-person attendance may be required for meetings and events, even on flexible days. This schedule is subject to approval by supervisors and may change at any time. Weekend and evening work may be required to support special events as needed. On occasion, the employee may be required to work outside events with weather conditions including heat and cold. Travel within the five boroughs may be required.

 

This role requires being stationary for 75% of the time and navigating office and Museum environments. Proficiency in operating office equipment and strong visual acuity (close, distance, color, and peripheral vision) is necessary for tasks like data analysis and computer use. Travel within the five boroughs may be required.

The annual salary for this position is $60,000. The position offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, life insurance, 401K and a defined benefit pension plan, short and long-term disability, and an Employee Assistance Program, with options for critical illness insurance, accident insurance, legal services, and pet insurance. The Museum provides a paid time off policy that includes 10 days of annual leave, rising to 15 days in year 2, and to 20 days in year 3, plus 12 sick days per year and 12 holidays.
