Manager, Individual Giving

The Manager of Individual Giving is an essential member of the Development team that will be responsible for advances the Museum’s philanthropic goals by creating and implementing effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and events for mid-level donors and prospects in the $1,000-$25,000, including the Starlight Circle, President’s Circle, and Abbott Circle affinity groups. The Individual Giving Manager will also manage the Museum’s Patron Program/Annual Fund, including working with development staff on cultivation and stewardship events and engagement opportunities, and executing a strong calendar of development communications in partnership with the Marketing and Communications Team and Manager of Membership and Development Communications. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the Director, Individual Giving and Major Gifts.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Meet and exceed fundraising goals tied to a portfolio of 100-150 individual donors and prospects, including members of the Starlight Circle and Abbott Circle, to support general operating, special events, restricted projects, and membership.
- Manage timely, personalized, and effective acquisition, renewal, and appeal cycles for the Starlight Circle, President’s Circle, and Abbott Circle groups.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive Patron Program/Annual Fund strategy for donors in the $1,000-$25,000 range, including cultivation/stewardship events, development communications, meetings with leadership, solicitations, campaigns, renewals, upgrades, etc.
- Create proposals, reports, and presentations tied to individual donors and prospects, working with the Director of Individual Giving and Major Gifts, CDO, and museum staff and leadership when appropriate.
- Deliver exceptional stewardship to donors and prospects, including when appropriate attending events, curator tours, offsite engagements, etc.
- Support the team’s prospecting pipeline by conducting prospect research when needed.
- Track and manage individual donor and prospect data in the Museum’s donor management system.
- Other duties as assigned.
A successful candidate will have:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in working in development, individual fundraising, marketing, client services, special events, or sales, preferably in a New York City cultural institution or nonprofit.
- Three to five years of experience working in develop, individual fundraising, marketing, client services, special events, or sales, preferably in a New York City cultural institution or nonprofit.
- Successful track record managing a portfolio of donors, members, and/or funders at the four- and five-figure level, including meeting revenue goals through prospect research, donor stewardship and cultivation, campaign strategy and execution, and proposal development.
- Superior written and oral communication skills, including ability to write and speak in clear, crisp, and compelling ways to articulate the goals, mission, and values of MCNY.
- Proficiency with donor management and research systems, and familiarity with the types of data necessary to support constituent/client/donor relations. Experience in Microsoft Office, Mailchimp, and/or Blackbaud Altru preferred.
- Ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines, both individually and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of current trends, patterns, and relationships in New York City arts and culture sector and local philanthropy preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Currently, MCNY offers a hybrid work schedule with three days a week onsite (Wednesdays and Thursdays are mandatory) and two days a week of flexible work when possible. In-person attendance may be required for meetings and events, even on flexible days. This schedule is subject to approval by supervisors and may change at any time. Weekend and evening work may be required to support special events as needed.
This role requires being stationary for 50% of the time and navigating office and Museum environments. Proficiency in operating office equipment and strong visual acuity (close, distance, color, and peripheral vision) is necessary for tasks like data analysis and computer use. Travel within the five boroughs may be required.

The annual salary for this position is $75,000. The position offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, life insurance, 401K and a defined benefit pension plan, short and long-term disability, and an Employee Assistance Program, with options for critical illness insurance, accident insurance, legal services, and pet insurance. The Museum provides a paid time off policy that includes 10 days of annual leave, rising to 15 days in year 2, and to 20 days in year 3, plus 12 sick days per year and 12 holidays.
